14: 23-29 It is interesting to see that the tithe spoken of here is to be shared with the one tithing. They were to take it or money to the place chosen by God and to eat it before the Lord sharing it with others particularly the Levite, the stranger and the fatherless and the widow. It is not the tithing of the churches around us that go to the opulent buildings or the lavish lifestyle of ministers. It was a sharing of God's blessings. This should be especially of interest to us today given the need that has and will continue to arise in the household of faith as the world pays the price for its recklessness and greed. All of us need to be prepared to share our blessings from God with those in need.
Alex Browning [Kitchener-Waterloo] Comment added in 2009 Reply to Alex
13 Israel had, by and large, been isolated from the insidious effects of people around them with different beliefs. However they were now to move into a totally different environment. The warnings of this chapter served to highlight the potential problem of individuals among them being influenced by the nations living in Canaan.

1. If there arise <6965>(8799) among <7130> you a prophet <5030>, or a dreamer <2492>(8802) of dreams <2472>, and giveth <5414>(8804) thee a sign <226> or a wonder <4159>,
2. And the sign <226> or the wonder <4159> come to pass <935>(8804), whereof he spake <1696>(8765) unto thee, saying <559>(8800), Let us go <3212>(8799) after <310> other <312> gods <430>, which thou hast not known <3045>(8804), and let us serve <5647>(8714) them;
3. Thou shalt not hearken <8085>(8799) unto the words <1697> of that prophet <5030>, or that dreamer <2492>(8802) of dreams <2472>: for the LORD <3068> your God <430> proveth <5254>(8764) you, to know <3045>(8800) whether ye <3426> love <157>(8802) the LORD <3068> your God <430> with all your heart <3824> and with all your soul <5315>.
4. Ye shall walk <3212>(8799) after <310> the LORD <3068> your God <430>, and fear <3372>(8799) him, and keep <8104>(8799) his commandments <4687>, and obey <8085>(8799) his voice <6963>, and ye shall serve <5647>(8799) him, and cleave <1692>(8799) unto him.
5. And that prophet <5030>, or that dreamer <2492>(8802) of dreams <2472>, shall be put to death <4191>(8714); because he hath spoken <1696>(8765) to turn <5627> you away from the LORD <3068> your God <430>, which brought you out <3318>(8688) of the land <776> of Egypt <4714>, and redeemed <6299>(8802) you out of the house <1004> of bondage <5650>, to thrust <5080>(8687) thee out of the way <1870> which the LORD <3068> thy God <430> commanded <6680>(8765) thee to walk in <3212>(8800). So shalt thou put <1197> <0> the evil <7451> away <1197>(8765) from the midst <7130> of thee.
6. If thy brother <251>, the son <1121> of thy mother <517>, or thy son <1121>, or thy daughter <1323>, or the wife <802> of thy bosom <2436>, or thy friend <7453>, which is as thine own soul <5315>, entice <5496>(8686) thee secretly <5643>, saying <559>(8800), Let us go <3212>(8799) and serve <5647>(8799) other <312> gods <430>, which thou hast not known <3045>(8804), thou, nor thy fathers <1>;
7. Namely, of the gods <430> of the people <5971> which are round about <5439> you, nigh <7138> unto thee, or far off <7350> from thee, from the one end <7097> of the earth <776> even unto the other end <7097> of the earth <776>;
8. Thou shalt not consent <14>(8799) unto him, nor hearken <8085>(8799) unto him; neither shall thine eye <5869> pity <2347>(8799) him, neither shalt thou spare <2550>(8799), neither shalt thou conceal <3680>(8762) him:
9. But thou shalt surely <2026>(8800) kill <2026>(8799) him; thine hand <3027> shall be first <7223> upon him to put him to death <4191>(8687), and afterwards <314> the hand <3027> of all the people <5971>.
10. And thou shalt stone <5619>(8804) him with stones <68>, that he die <4191>(8804); because he hath sought <1245>(8765) to thrust thee away <5080>(8687) from the LORD <3068> thy God <430>, which brought thee out <3318>(8688) of the land <776> of Egypt <4714>, from the house <1004> of bondage <5650>.
11. And all Israel <3478> shall hear <8085>(8799), and fear <3372>(8799), and shall do <6213>(8800) no more <3254>(8686) any <1697> such wickedness <7451> as this is among <7130> you.
12. If thou shalt hear <8085>(8799) say in one <259> of thy cities <5892>, which the LORD <3068> thy God <430> hath given <5414>(8802) thee to dwell <3427>(8800) there, saying <559>(8800),
13. Certain men <582>, the children <1121> of Belial <1100>, are gone out <3318>(8804) from among <7130> you, and have withdrawn <5080>(8686) the inhabitants <3427>(8802) of their city <5892>, saying <559>(8800), Let us go <3212>(8799) and serve <5647>(8799) other <312> gods <430>, which ye have not known <3045>(8804);
14. Then shalt thou enquire <1875>(8804), and make search <2713>(8804), and ask <7592>(8804) diligently <3190>(8687); and, behold, if it be truth <571>, and the thing <1697> certain <3559>(8737), that such <2063> abomination <8441> is wrought <6213>(8738) among <7130> you;
15. Thou shalt surely <5221>(8687) smite <5221>(8686) the inhabitants <3427>(8802) of that city <5892> with the edge <6310> of the sword <2719>, destroying it utterly <2763>(8685), and all that is therein, and the cattle <929> thereof, with the edge <6310> of the sword <2719>.
16. And thou shalt gather <6908>(8799) all the spoil <7998> of it into the midst <8432> of the street <7339> thereof, and shalt burn <8313>(8804) with fire <784> the city <5892>, and all the spoil <7998> thereof every whit <3632>, for the LORD <3068> thy God <430>: and it shall be an heap <8510> for ever <5769>; it shall not be built again <1129>(8735).
17. And there shall cleave <1692>(8799) nought <3972> of the cursed thing <2764> to thine hand <3027>: that the LORD <3068> may turn <7725>(8799) from the fierceness <2740> of his anger <639>, and shew <5414>(8804) thee mercy <7356>, and have compassion <7355>(8765) upon thee, and multiply <7235>(8689) thee, as he hath sworn <7650>(8738) unto thy fathers <1>;
18. When thou shalt hearken <8085>(8799) to the voice <6963> of the LORD <3068> thy God <430>, to keep <8104>(8800) all his commandments <4687> which I command <6680>(8764) thee this day <3117>, to do <6213>(8800) that which is right <3477> in the eyes <5869> of the LORD <3068> thy God <430>.
1. Ye are the children <1121> of the LORD <3068> your God <430>: ye shall not cut <1413>(8704) yourselves, nor make <7760>(8799) any baldness <7144> between your eyes <5869> for the dead <4191>(8801).
2. For thou art an holy <6918> people <5971> unto the LORD <3068> thy God <430>, and the LORD <3068> hath chosen <977>(8804) thee to be a peculiar <5459> people <5971> unto himself, above all the nations <5971> that are upon <6440> the earth <127>.
3. Thou shalt not eat <398>(8799) any abominable thing <8441>.
4. These are the beasts <929> which ye shall eat <398>(8799): the ox <7794>, the sheep <7716> <3775>, and the goat <5795>,
5. The hart <354>, and the roebuck <6643>, and the fallow deer <3180>, and the wild goat <689>, and the pygarg <1788>, and the wild ox <8377>, and the chamois <2169>.
6. And every beast <929> that parteth <6536>(8688) the hoof <6541>, and cleaveth <8157> the cleft <8156>(8802) into two <8147> claws <6541>, and cheweth <5927>(8688) the cud <1625> among the beasts <929>, that ye shall eat <398>(8799).
7. Nevertheless these ye shall not eat <398>(8799) of them that chew <5927>(8688) the cud <1625>, or of them that divide <6536>(8688) the cloven <8156>(8803) hoof <6541>; as the camel <1581>, and the hare <768>, and the coney <8227>: for they chew <5927>(8688) the cud <1625>, but divide <6536>(8689) not the hoof <6541>; therefore they are unclean <2931> unto you.
8. And the swine <2386>, because it divideth <6536>(8688) the hoof <6541>, yet cheweth not the cud <1625>, it is unclean <2931> unto you: ye shall not eat <398>(8799) of their flesh <1320>, nor touch <5060>(8799) their dead carcase <5038>.
9. These ye shall eat <398>(8799) of all that are in the waters <4325>: all that have fins <5579> and scales <7193> shall ye eat <398>(8799):
10. And whatsoever hath not fins <5579> and scales <7193> ye may not eat <398>(8799); it is unclean <2931> unto you.
11. Of all clean <2889> birds <6833> ye shall eat <398>(8799).
12. But these are they of which ye shall not eat <398>(8799): the eagle <5404>, and the ossifrage <6538>, and the ospray <5822>,
13. And the glede <7201>, and the kite <344>, and the vulture <1772> after his kind <4327>,
14. And every raven <6158> after his kind <4327>,
15. And the owl <1323> <3284>, and the night hawk <8464>, and the cuckow <7828>, and the hawk <5322> after his kind <4327>,
16. The little owl <3563>, and the great owl <3244>, and the swan <8580>,
17. And the pelican <6893>, and the gier eagle <7360>, and the cormorant <7994>,
18. And the stork <2624>, and the heron <601> after her kind <4327>, and the lapwing <1744>, and the bat <5847>.
19. And every creeping thing <8318> that flieth <5775> is unclean <2931> unto you: they shall not be eaten <398>(8735).
20. But of all clean <2889> fowls <5775> ye may eat <398>(8799).
21. Ye shall not eat <398>(8799) of any thing that dieth of itself <5038>: thou shalt give <5414>(8799) it unto the stranger <1616> that is in thy gates <8179>, that he may eat <398>(8804) it; or thou mayest sell <4376>(8800) it unto an alien <5237>: for thou art an holy <6918> people <5971> unto the LORD <3068> thy God <430>. Thou shalt not seethe <1310>(8762) a kid <1423> in his mother's <517> milk <2461>.
22. Thou shalt truly <6237>(8763) tithe <6237>(8762) all the increase <8393> of thy seed <2233>, that the field <7704> bringeth forth <3318>(8802) year <8141> by year <8141>.
23. And thou shalt eat <398>(8804) before <6440> the LORD <3068> thy God <430>, in the place <4725> which he shall choose <977>(8799) to place <7931>(8763) his name <8034> there, the tithe <4643> of thy corn <1715>, of thy wine <8492>, and of thine oil <3323>, and the firstlings <1062> of thy herds <1241> and of thy flocks <6629>; that thou mayest learn <3925>(8799) to fear <3372>(8800) the LORD <3068> thy God <430> always <3117>.
24. And if the way <1870> be too long <7235>(8799) for thee, so that <3588> thou art not able <3201>(8799) to carry <5375>(8800) it; or if the place <4725> be too far <7368>(8799) from thee, which the LORD <3068> thy God <430> shall choose <977>(8799) to set <7760>(8800) his name <8034> there, when the LORD <3068> thy God <430> hath blessed <1288>(8762) thee:
25. Then shalt thou turn <5414>(8804) it into money <3701>, and bind up <6696>(8804) the money <3701> in thine hand <3027>, and shalt go <1980>(8804) unto the place <4725> which the LORD <3068> thy God <430> shall choose <977>(8799):
26. And thou shalt bestow <5414>(8804) that money <3701> for whatsoever thy soul <5315> lusteth after <183>(8762), for oxen <1241>, or for sheep <6629>, or for wine <3196>, or for strong drink <7941>, or for whatsoever thy soul <5315> desireth <7592>(8799): and thou shalt eat <398>(8804) there before <6440> the LORD <3068> thy God <430>, and thou shalt rejoice <8055>(8804), thou, and thine household <1004>,
27. And the Levite <3881> that is within thy gates <8179>; thou shalt not forsake <5800>(8799) him; for he hath no part <2506> nor inheritance <5159> with thee.
28. At the end <7097> of three <7969> years <8141> thou shalt bring forth <3318>(8686) all the tithe <4643> of thine increase <8393> the same year <8141>, and shalt lay it up <3240>(8689) within thy gates <8179>:
29. And the Levite <3881>, (because he hath no part <2506> nor inheritance <5159> with thee,) and the stranger <1616>, and the fatherless <3490>, and the widow <490>, which are within thy gates <8179>, shall come <935>(8804), and shall eat <398>(8804) and be satisfied <7646>(8804); that the LORD <3068> thy God <430> may bless <1288>(8762) thee in all the work <4639> of thine hand <3027> which thou doest <6213>(8799).

John Wilson [Toronto West (Can)] Comment added in 2004 Reply to John
The preacher is cynical and sceptical about the value of life as it exists presently. One could be rich; live to a very old age; or be stillborn, and it all amounts to the same thing - oblivion. Meanwhile, the life lived will be accompanied by some form of sorrow or dissatisfaction. Such are the conditions of life since Adam and Eve’s fall from grace in Eden. Only when Jesus returns will these things be changed. Thus, true believers live in the hope of eternal life in a world full of God’s glory (Hab 2:14; Titus 1:2).

1. There is <3426> an evil <7451> which I have seen <7200>(8804) under the sun <8121>, and it is common <7227> among men <120>:
2. A man <376> to whom God <430> hath given <5414>(8799) riches <6239>, wealth <5233>, and honour <3519>, so that he wanteth <2638> nothing for his soul <5315> of all that he desireth <183>(8691), yet God <430> giveth him not power <7980>(8686) to eat <398>(8800) thereof, but a stranger <376> <5237> eateth <398>(8799) it: this is vanity <1892>, and it is an evil <7451> disease <2483>.
3. If a man <376> beget <3205>(8686) an hundred <3967> children, and live <2421>(8799) many <7227> years <8141>, so that the days <3117> of his years <8141> be many <7227>, and his soul <5315> be not filled <7646>(8799) with good <2896>, and also that he have no burial <6900>; I say <559>(8804), that an untimely birth <5309> is better <2896> than he.
4. For he cometh <935>(8804) in with vanity <1892>, and departeth <3212>(8799) in darkness <2822>, and his name <8034> shall be covered <3680>(8792) with darkness <2822>.
5. Moreover he hath not seen <7200>(8804) the sun <8121>, nor known <3045>(8804) any thing: this <2088> hath more rest <5183> than <2088> the other.
6. Yea, though <432> he live <2421>(8804) a thousand <505> years <8141> twice <6471> told, yet hath he seen <7200>(8804) no good <2896>: do not all go <1980>(8802) to one <259> place <4725>?
7. All the labour <5999> of man <120> is for his mouth <6310>, and yet the appetite <5315> is not filled <4390>(8735).
8. For what hath the wise <2450> more <3148> than the fool <3684>? what hath the poor <6041>, that knoweth <3045>(8802) to walk <1980>(8800) before the living <2416>?
9. Better <2896> is the sight <4758> of the eyes <5869> than the wandering <1980>(8800) of the desire <5315>: this is also vanity <1892> and vexation <7469> of spirit <7307>.
10. That which hath been is named <7121>(8738) <8034> already <3528>, and it is known <3045>(8737) that it is man <120>: neither may <3201>(8799) he contend <1777>(8800) with him that is mightier <8623> than he.
11. Seeing there be <3426> many <7235>(8687) things <1697> that increase <7235>(8688) vanity <1892>, what is man <120> the better <3148>?
12. For who knoweth <3045>(8802) what is good <2896> for man <120> in this life <2416>, all <4557> the days <3117> of his vain <1892> life <2416> which he spendeth <6213>(8799) as a shadow <6738>? for who can tell <5046>(8686) a man <120> what shall be after <310> him under the sun <8121>?
Notes that are not verse specific
A pre-written warning
If they had heard Peter quote Psa 2 the Jews would have been very worried indeed:
1) It claimed that the man they had crucified was the Christ.
2) That in rejecting him, they had rejected the LORD also.
3) God was now very displeased and angry.
4) The man they had killed was now King and Lord over them.
5) He had the power from on high to strike them down for their evil.
The important lesson for them, and the one that Peter drove home, is found in the rest of the Psalm.
Rob de Jongh [Mountsorrel (UK)] Comment added in 2006 Reply to Rob
Peter and John were challenged by the Sadducees over the claim that Jesus had risen from the dead.
The Sadducees did not believe that people rose from the dead. They also denied belief in spirits or angels (Acts 23:8). These beliefs put them at odd with the Pharisees as we see in the dispute over Paul (Acts 23:6-10).
It is interesting that Jesus, predominantly, opposed the Pharisees rather than the Sadducees. One of the main differences between the two sects was that the Sadducees believed that the written Law of Moses was all that was needed for the people of Israel. The Pharisees, however, maintained that there was an oral law given to the people of Israel by Moses. As guardians and interpreters of this law, the Pharisees became absolute authorities. Jesus attacked their interpretations as misuse of the written Law (e.g. Mark 7:9-13).
Understanding the written law of Moses was important to appreciate the role of Jesus (John 5:46). And so, that is the reason for Jesus challenging the Pharisees more vigorously than the Sadducees.

3. Who <3739> seeing <1492>(5631) Peter <4074> and <2532> John <2491> about <3195>(5723) to go <1524>(5750) into <1519> the temple <2411> asked <2065>(5707)(5625) <2983>(5629) an alms <1654>.

5. And <1161> he gave heed <1907>(5707) unto them <846>, expecting <4328>(5723) to receive <2983>(5629) something <5100> of <3844> them <846>.
6. Then <1161> Peter <4074> said <2036>(5627), Silver <694> and <2532> gold <5553> have <5225>(5719) I <3427> none <3756>; but <1161> such as <5124> I have <2192>(5719) give I <1325>(5719) thee <4671>: In <1722> the name <3686> of Jesus <2424> Christ <5547> of Nazareth <3480> rise up <1453>(5669) and <2532> walk <4043>(5720).
7. And <2532> he took <4084>(5660) him <846> by the right <1188> hand <5495>, and lifted him up <1453>(5656): and <1161> immediately <3916> his <846> feet <939> and <2532> ankle bones <4974> received strength <4732>(5681).
8. And <2532> he leaping up <1814>(5740) stood <2476>(5627), and <2532> walked <4043>(5707), and <2532> entered <1525>(5627) with <4862> them <846> into <1519> the temple <2411>, walking <4043>(5723), and <2532> leaping <242>(5740), and <2532> praising <134>(5723) God <2316>.
9. And <2532> all <3956> the people <2992> saw <1492>(5627) him <846> walking <4043>(5723) and <2532> praising <134>(5723) God <2316>:
10. And <5037> they knew <1921>(5707) that <3754> it was <2258>(5713) he <3778> which <3588> sat <2521>(5740) for <4314> alms <1654> at <1909> the Beautiful <5611> gate <4439> of the temple <2411>: and <2532> they were filled <4130>(5681) with wonder <2285> and <2532> amazement <1611> at <1909> that which had happened <4819>(5761) unto him <846>.
11. And <1161> as the lame man <5560> which was healed <2390>(5685) held <2902>(5723) Peter <4074> and <2532> John <2491>, all <3956> the people <2992> ran together <4936>(5627) unto <4314> them <846> in <1909> the porch <4745> that is called <2564>(5746) Solomon's <4672>, greatly wondering <1569>.
12. And <1161> when Peter <4074> saw <1492>(5631) it, he answered <611>(5662) unto <4314> the people <2992>, Ye men <435> of Israel <2475>, why <5101> marvel ye <2296>(5719) at <1909> this <5129>? or <2228> why <5101> look ye so earnestly <816>(5719) on us <2254>, as though <5613> by our own <2398> power <1411> or <2228> holiness <2150> we had made <4160>(5761) this man <846> to walk <4043>(5721)?
13. The God <2316> of Abraham <11>, and <2532> of Isaac <2464>, and <2532> of Jacob <2384>, the God <2316> of our <2257> fathers <3962>, hath glorified <1392>(5656) his <848> Son <3816> Jesus <2424>; whom <3739> ye <5210> delivered up <3860>(5656), and <2532> denied <720>(5662) him <846> in <2596> the presence <4383> of Pilate <4091>, when he was determined <2919>(5660) to let <630> <0> him <1565> go <630>(5721).
14. But <1161> ye <5210> denied <720>(5662) the Holy One <40> and <2532> the Just <1342>, and <2532> desired <154>(5668) a murderer <5406> <435> to be granted <5483>(5683) unto you <5213>;
15. And <1161> killed <615>(5656) the Prince <747> of life <2222>, whom <3739> God <2316> hath raised <1453>(5656) from <1537> the dead <3498>; whereof <3739> we <2249> are <2070>(5748) witnesses <3144>.
16. And <2532> his <846> name <3686> through <1909> faith <4102> in his name <3686> hath made <4732> <0> this man <5026> strong <4732>(5656), whom <3739> ye see <2334>(5719) and <2532> know <1492>(5758): yea <2532>, the faith <4102> which is <1325> <0> by <1223> him <846> hath given <1325>(5656) him <846> this <5126> perfect soundness <3647> in the presence <561> of you <5216> all <3956>.
17. And <2532> now <3568>, brethren <80>, I wot <1492>(5758) that <3754> through <2596> ignorance <52> ye did <4238>(5656) it, as <5618> did also <2532> your <5216> rulers <758>.
18. But <1161> those things, which <3739> God <2316> before had shewed <4293>(5656) by <1223> the mouth <4750> of all <3956> his <848> prophets <4396>, that Christ <5547> should suffer <3958>(5629), he hath <4137> <0> so <3779> fulfilled <4137>(5656).
19. Repent ye <3340>(5657) therefore <3767>, and <2532> be converted <1994>(5657), that <1519> your <5216> sins <266> may be blotted out <1813>(5683), when <3704> the times <2540> of refreshing <403> shall come <302> <2064>(5632) from <575> the presence <4383> of the Lord <2962>;
20. And <2532> he shall send <649>(5661) Jesus <2424> Christ <5547>, which before was preached <4296>(5772) unto you <5213>:
21. Whom <3739> the heaven <3772> <3303> must <1163>(5748) receive <1209>(5664) until <891> the times <5550> of restitution <605> of all things <3956>, which <3739> God <2316> hath spoken <2980>(5656) by <1223> the mouth <4750> of all <3956> his <848> holy <40> prophets <4396> since <575> the world began <165>.
22. For <1063> Moses <3475> truly <3303> said <2036>(5627) unto <4314> the fathers <3962>, <3754> A prophet <4396> shall <450> <0> the Lord <2962> your <5216> God <2316> raise up <450>(5692) unto you <5213> of <1537> your <5216> brethren <80>, like <5613> unto me <1691>; him <846> shall ye hear <191>(5695) in <2596> all things <3956> whatsoever <3745> <302> he shall say <2980>(5661) unto <4314> you <5209>.
23. And <1161> it shall come to pass <2071>(5704), that every <3956> soul <5590>, which <3748> <302> will <191> <0> not <3361> hear <191>(5661) that <1565> prophet <4396>, shall be destroyed <1842>(5701) from among <1537> the people <2992>.
24. Yea <2532>, and <1161> all <3956> the prophets <4396> from <575> Samuel <4545> and <2532> those that follow after <2517>, as many as <3745> have spoken <2980>(5656), have <4293> <0> likewise <2532> foretold <4293>(5656) of these <5025> days <2250>.
25. Ye <5210> are <2075>(5748) the children <5207> of the prophets <4396>, and <2532> of the covenant <1242> which <3739> God <2316> made <1303>(5639) with <4314> our <2257> fathers <3962>, saying <3004>(5723) unto <4314> Abraham <11>, And <2532> in thy <4675> seed <4690> shall <1757> <0> all <3956> the kindreds <3965> of the earth <1093> be blessed <1757>(5701).
26. Unto you <5213> first <4412> God <2316>, having raised up <450>(5660) his <848> Son <3816> Jesus <2424>, sent <649>(5656) him <846> to bless <2127>(5723) you <5209>, in <1722> turning away <654>(5721) every one <1538> of you <5216> from <575> his iniquities <4189>.
1. And <1161> as they spake <2980>(5723) unto <4314> the people <2992>, the priests <2409>, and <2532> the captain <4755> of the temple <2411>, and <2532> the Sadducees <4523>, came upon <2186>(5627) them <846>,
2. Being grieved <1278>(5740) that <1223> they <846> taught <1321>(5721) the people <2992>, and <2532> preached <2605>(5721) through <1722> Jesus <2424> the resurrection <386> from <1537> the dead <3498>.
3. And <2532> they laid <1911>(5627) hands <5495> on them <846>, and <2532> put <5087>(5639) them in <1519> hold <5084> unto <1519> the next day <839>: for <1063> it was <2258>(5713) now <2235> eventide <2073>.
4. Howbeit <1161> many <4183> of them which heard <191>(5660) the word <3056> believed <4100>(5656); and <2532> the number <706> of the men <435> was <1096>(5675) about <5616> five <4002> thousand <5505>.
5. And <1161> it came to pass <1096>(5633) on <1909> the morrow <839>, that their rulers <758>, and <2532> elders <4245>, and <2532> scribes <1122>,
6. And <2532> Annas <452> the high priest <749>, and <2532> Caiaphas <2533>, and <2532> John <2491>, and <2532> Alexander <223>, and <2532> as many as <3745> were <2258>(5713) of <1537> the kindred <1085> of the high priest <748>, were gathered together <4863>(5683) at <1519> Jerusalem <2419>.
7. And <2532> when they had set <2476>(5660) them <846> in <1722> the midst <3319>, they asked <4441>(5711), By <1722> what <4169> power <1411>, or <2228> by <1722> what <4169> name <3686>, have <4160> <0> ye <5210> done <4160>(5656) this <5124>?
8. Then <5119> Peter <4074>, filled <4130>(5685) with the Holy <40> Ghost <4151>, said <2036>(5627) unto <4314> them <846>, Ye rulers <758> of the people <2992>, and <2532> elders <4245> of Israel <2474>,
9. If <1487> we <2249> this day <4594> be examined <350>(5743) of <1909> the good deed done <2108> to the impotent <772> man <444>, by <1722> what means <5101> he <3778> is made whole <4982>(5769);
10. Be it <2077>(5749) known <1110> unto you <5213> all <3956>, and <2532> to all <3956> the people <2992> of Israel <2474>, that <3754> by <1722> the name <3686> of Jesus <2424> Christ <5547> of Nazareth <3480>, whom <3739> ye <5210> crucified <4717>(5656), whom <3739> God <2316> raised <1453>(5656) from <1537> the dead <3498>, even by <1722> him <5129> doth <3936> <0> this man <3778> stand here <3936>(5758) before <1799> you <5216> whole <5199>.
11. This <3778> is <2076>(5748) the stone <3037> which <3588> was set at nought <1848>(5685) of <5259> you <5216> builders <3618>(5723), which <3588> is become <1096>(5637) the head <2776> of <1519> the corner <1137>.
12. Neither <2532> <3756> is there <2076>(5748) salvation <4991> in <1722> any <3762> other <243>: for <1063> there is <2076>(5748) none <3777> other <2087> name <3686> under <5259> heaven <3772> given <1325>(5772) among <1722> men <444>, whereby <1722> <3739> we <2248> must <1163>(5748) be saved <4982>(5683).
13. Now <1161> when they saw <2334>(5723) the boldness <3954> of Peter <4074> and <2532> John <2491>, and <2532> perceived <2638>(5642) that <3754> they were <1526>(5748) unlearned <62> and <2532> ignorant <2399> men <444>, they marvelled <2296>(5707); and <5037> they took knowledge <1921>(5707) of them <846>, that <3754> they had been <2258>(5713) with <4862> Jesus <2424>.
14. And <1161> beholding <991>(5723) the man <444> which was healed <2323>(5772) standing <2476>(5761) with <4862> them <846>, they could <2192>(5707) say <471> <0> nothing <3762> against it <471>(5629).
15. But <1161> when they had commanded <2753>(5660) them <846> to go aside <565>(5629) out of <1854> the council <4892>, they conferred <4820>(5627) among <4314> themselves <240>,
16. Saying <3004>(5723), What <5101> shall we do <4160>(5692) to these <5125> men <444>? for <1063> that <3754> indeed <3303> a notable <1110> miracle <4592> hath been done <1096>(5754) by <1223> them <846> is manifest <5318> to all them <3956> that dwell <2730>(5723) in Jerusalem <2419>; and <2532> we cannot <3756> <1410>(5736) deny <720>(5664) it.
17. But <235> that <3363> <0> it spread <1268>(5686) no <3363> further <1909> <4119> among <1519> the people <2992>, let us straitly <547> threaten <546>(5672) them <846>, that they speak <2980>(5721) henceforth <3371> to no <3367> man <444> in <1909> this <5129> name <3686>.
18. And <2532> they called <2564>(5660) them <846>, and commanded <3853>(5656) them <846> not <3361> to speak <5350>(5738) at all <2527> nor <3366> teach <1321>(5721) in <1909> the name <3686> of Jesus <2424>.
19. But <1161> Peter <4074> and <2532> John <2491> answered <611>(5679) and said <2036>(5627) unto <4314> them <846>, Whether <1487> it be <2076>(5748) right <1342> in the sight <1799> of God <2316> to hearken <191>(5721) unto you <5216> more than <3123> <2228> unto God <2316>, judge ye <2919>(5657).
20. For <1063> we <2249> cannot <3756> <1410>(5736) but <3361> speak <2980>(5721) the things which <3739> we have seen <1492>(5627) and <2532> heard <191>(5656).
21. So <1161> when they had further threatened <4324>(5671) them <846>, they let <630> <0> them <846> go <630>(5656), finding <2147>(5723) nothing <3367> how <4459> they might punish <2849>(5672) them <846>, because <1223> of the people <2992>: for <3754> all <3956> men glorified <1392>(5707) God <2316> for <1909> that which was done <1096>(5756).
22. For <1063> the man <444> was <2258>(5713) above <4119> forty <5062> years old <2094>, on <1909> whom <3739> this <5124> miracle <4592> of healing <2392> was shewed <1096>(5715).
23. And <1161> being let go <630>(5685), they went <2064>(5627) to <4314> their own company <2398>, and <2532> reported <518>(5656) all <3745> that the chief priests <749> and <2532> elders <4245> had said <2036>(5627) unto <4314> them <846>.
24. And <1161> when they heard that <191>(5660), they lifted up <142>(5656) their voice <5456> to <4314> God <2316> with one accord <3661>, and <2532> said <2036>(5627), Lord <1203>, thou <4771> art God <2316>, which <3588> hast made <4160>(5660) heaven <3772>, and <2532> earth <1093>, and <2532> the sea <2281>, and <2532> all <3956> that in <1722> them is <846>:
25. Who <3588> by <1223> the mouth <4750> of thy <4675> servant <3816> David <1138> hast said <2036>(5631), Why <2444> did <5433> <0> the heathen <1484> rage <5433>(5656), and <2532> the people <2992> imagine <3191>(5656) vain things <2756>?
26. The kings <935> of the earth <1093> stood up <3936>(5656), and <2532> the rulers <758> were gathered <4863>(5681) together <1909> <846> against <2596> the Lord <2962>, and <2532> against <2596> his <846> Christ <5547>.
27. For <1063> of <1909> a truth <225> against <1909> thy <4675> holy <40> child <3816> Jesus <2424>, whom <3739> thou hast anointed <5548>(5656), both <5037> Herod <2264>, and <2532> Pontius <4194> Pilate <4091>, with <4862> the Gentiles <1484>, and <2532> the people <2992> of Israel <2474>, were gathered together <4863>(5681),
28. For to do <4160>(5658) whatsoever <3745> thy <4675> hand <5495> and <2532> thy <4675> counsel <1012> determined before <4309>(5656) to be done <1096>(5635).
29. And <2532> now <3569>, Lord <2962>, behold <1896>(5628) <1909> their <846> threatenings <547>: and <2532> grant unto <1325>(5628) thy <4675> servants <1401>, that with <3326> all <3956> boldness <3954> they may speak <2980>(5721) thy <4675> word <3056>,
30. By <1722> <4571> stretching forth <1614>(5721) thine <4675> hand <5495> to <1519> heal <2392>; and <2532> that signs <4592> and <2532> wonders <5059> may be done <1096>(5738) by <1223> the name <3686> of thy <4675> holy <40> child <3816> Jesus <2424>.
31. And <2532> when they <846> had prayed <1189>(5679), the place <5117> was shaken <4531>(5681) where <1722> <3739> they were <2258>(5713) assembled together <4863>(5772); and <2532> they were <4130> <0> all <537> filled <4130>(5681) with the Holy <40> Ghost <4151>, and <2532> they spake <2980>(5707) the word <3056> of God <2316> with <3326> boldness <3954>.
32. And <1161> the multitude <4128> of them that believed <4100>(5660) were <2258>(5713) of one heart <2588> and <2532> of one <3391> soul <5590>: neither <2532> <3761> said <3004>(5707) any <1520> of them that ought <5100> of the things which he possessed <5224>(5723) was <1511>(5750) his own <2398>; but <235> they had <2258>(5713) all things <537> common <2839>.
33. And <2532> with great <3173> power <1411> gave <591>(5707) the apostles <652> witness <3142> of the resurrection <386> of the Lord <2962> Jesus <2424>: and <5037> great <3173> grace <5485> was <2258>(5713) upon <1909> them <846> all <3956>.
