GET UP AND GO!
Was it a mark of frustration that made Joshua say, "How long will you wait before you begin to take possession of the land that the LORD, the God of your Fathers, has given you?"
Israel had just completed a 5-year campaign to take the land. Now what were they waiting for? God had given them the land - they already had it. All they had to do was to settle in it. Instead they mooched around wondering what to do next, until Joshua took the initiative and divided up the rest of the land.
God has given us special gifts, talents and opportunities. We already have them. We have opportunities to encourage people, to show them the gospel, to praise God, to work in the ecclesia, to serve, to give gifts, to show the example of Jesus in our lives, to be compassionate.
So what are we sitting around waiting for? Are we waiting for a Joshua to tell us what to do? Are we waiting for someone to organise a roster or make a plan? That plan took 5 years coming for Israel. If we sit around waiting, think of all the opportunities we will miss. So the lesson is this: Don't sit around waiting, Get up, take possession of your gifts and use them.

1. And the whole congregation <5712> of the children <1121> of Israel <3478> assembled together <6950>(8735) at Shiloh <7887>, and set up <7931>(8686) the tabernacle <168> of the congregation <4150> there. And the land <776> was subdued <3533>(8738) before <6440> them.
2. And there remained <3498>(8735) among the children <1121> of Israel <3478> seven <7651> tribes <7626>, which had not yet received <2505>(8804) their inheritance <5159>.
3. And Joshua <3091> said <559>(8799) unto the children <1121> of Israel <3478>, How long are ye slack <7503>(8693) to go <935>(8800) to possess <3423>(8800) the land <776>, which the LORD <3068> God <430> of your fathers <1> hath given <5414>(8804) you?
4. Give out <3051>(8798) from among you three <7969> men <582> for each tribe <7626>: and I will send <7971>(8799) them, and they shall rise <6965>(8799), and go <1980>(8691) through the land <776>, and describe <3789>(8799) it according <6310> to the inheritance <5159> of them; and they shall come <935>(8799) again to me.
5. And they shall divide <2505>(8694) it into seven <7651> parts <2506>: Judah <3063> shall abide <5975>(8799) in their coast <1366> on the south <5045>, and the house <1004> of Joseph <3130> shall abide <5975>(8799) in their coasts <1366> on the north <6828>.
6. Ye shall therefore describe <3789>(8799) the land <776> into seven <7651> parts <2506>, and bring <935>(8689) the description hither to me, that I may cast <3384>(8804) lots <1486> for you here before <6440> the LORD <3068> our God <430>.
7. But the Levites <3881> have no part <2506> among <7130> you; for the priesthood <3550> of the LORD <3068> is their inheritance <5159>: and Gad <1410>, and Reuben <7205>, and half <2677> the tribe <7626> of Manasseh <4519>, have received <3947>(8804) their inheritance <5159> beyond <5676> Jordan <3383> on the east <4217>, which Moses <4872> the servant <5650> of the LORD <3068> gave <5414>(8804) them.
8. And the men <582> arose <6965>(8799), and went away <3212>(8799): and Joshua <3091> charged <6680>(8762) them that went <1980>(8802) to describe <3789>(8800) the land <776>, saying <559>(8800), Go <3212>(8798) and walk <1980>(8690) through the land <776>, and describe <3789>(8798) it, and come again <7725>(8798) to me, that I may here cast <7993>(8686) lots <1486> for you before <6440> the LORD <3068> in Shiloh <7887>.
9. And the men <582> went <3212>(8799) and passed through <5674>(8799) the land <776>, and described <3789>(8799) it by cities <5892> into seven <7651> parts <2506> in a book <5612>, and came <935>(8799) again to Joshua <3091> to the host <4264> at Shiloh <7887>.
10. And Joshua <3091> cast <7993>(8686) lots <1486> for them in Shiloh <7887> before <6440> the LORD <3068>: and there Joshua <3091> divided <2505>(8762) the land <776> unto the children <1121> of Israel <3478> according to their divisions <4256>.
11. And the lot <1486> of the tribe <4294> of the children <1121> of Benjamin <1144> came up <5927>(8799) according to their families <4940>: and the coast <1366> of their lot <1486> came forth <3318>(8799) between the children <1121> of Judah <3063> and the children <1121> of Joseph <3130>.
12. And their border <1366> on the north <6828> side <6285> was from Jordan <3383>; and the border <1366> went up <5927>(8804) to the side <3802> of Jericho <3405> on the north <6828> side, and went up <5927>(8804) through the mountains <2022> westward <3220>; and the goings out <8444> thereof were at the wilderness <4057> of Bethaven <1007>.
13. And the border <1366> went over <5674>(8804) from thence toward Luz <3870>, to the side <3802> of Luz <3870>, which is Bethel <1008>, southward <5045>; and the border <1366> descended <3381>(8804) to Atarothadar <5853>, near the hill <2022> that lieth on the south side <5045> of the nether <8481> Bethhoron <1032>.
14. And the border <1366> was drawn <8388>(8804) thence, and compassed <5437>(8738) the corner <6285> of the sea <3220> southward <5045>, from the hill <2022> that lieth before <6440> Bethhoron <1032> southward <5045>; and the goings out <8444> thereof were at Kirjathbaal <7154>, which is Kirjathjearim <7157>, a city <5892> of the children <1121> of Judah <3063>: this was the west <3220> quarter <6285>.
15. And the south <5045> quarter <6285> was from the end <7097> of Kirjathjearim <7157>, and the border <1366> went out <3318>(8804) on the west <3220>, and went out <3318>(8804) to the well <4599> of waters <4325> of Nephtoah <5318>:
16. And the border <1366> came down <3381>(8804) to the end <7097> of the mountain <2022> that lieth before <6440> the valley <1516> of the son <1121> of Hinnom <2011>, and which is in the valley <6010> of the giants <7497> on the north <6828>, and descended <3381>(8804) to the valley <1516> of Hinnom <2011>, to the side <3802> of Jebusi <2983> on the south <5045>, and descended <3381>(8804) to Enrogel <5883>,
17. And was drawn <8388>(8804) from the north <6828>, and went forth <3318>(8804) to Enshemesh <5885>, and went forth <3318>(8804) toward Geliloth <1553>, which is over against <5227> the going up <4608> of Adummim <131>, and descended <3381>(8804) to the stone <68> of Bohan <932> the son <1121> of Reuben <7205>,
18. And passed along <5674>(8804) toward the side <3802> over against <4136> Arabah <6160> northward <6828>, and went down <3381>(8804) unto Arabah <6160>:
19. And the border <1366> passed along <5674>(8804) to the side <3802> of Bethhoglah <1031> northward <6828>: and the outgoings <8444> of the border <1366> were at the north <6828> bay <3956> of the salt <4417> sea <3220> at the south <5045> end <7097> of Jordan <3383>: this was the south <5045> coast <1366>.
20. And Jordan <3383> was the border <1379>(8799) of it on the east <6924> side <6285>. This was the inheritance <5159> of the children <1121> of Benjamin <1144>, by the coasts <1367> thereof round about <5439>, according to their families <4940>.
21. Now the cities <5892> of the tribe <4294> of the children <1121> of Benjamin <1144> according to their families <4940> were Jericho <3405>, and Bethhoglah <1031>, and the valley <6010> of Keziz <7104>,
22. And Betharabah <1026>, and Zemaraim <6787>, and Bethel <1008>,
23. And Avim <5761>, and Parah <6511>, and Ophrah <6084>,
24. And Chepharhaammonai <3726>, and Ophni <6078>, and Gaba <1387>; twelve <8147> <6240> cities <5892> with their villages <2691>:
25. Gibeon <1391>, and Ramah <7414>, and Beeroth <881>,
26. And Mizpeh <4708>, and Chephirah <3716>, and Mozah <4681>,
27. And Rekem <7552>, and Irpeel <3416>, and Taralah <8634>,
28. And Zelah <6762>, Eleph <507>, and Jebusi <2983>, which is Jerusalem <3389>, Gibeath <1394>, and Kirjath <7157>; fourteen <702> <6240> cities <5892> with their villages <2691>. This is the inheritance <5159> of the children <1121> of Benjamin <1144> according to their families <4940>.
Notes that are not verse specific
This chapter is essentially talking about the destruction of Judah and Jerusalem. This could apply to Nebuchadnezzar in 587 BC or to Titus in 70 AD. Also, a warning for all nations could be inferred for the time of the end before Jesus returns to reign from Jerusalem. Great troubles will afflict the nations of the world at that time.

1. Behold, the LORD <3068> maketh the earth <776> empty <1238>(8802), and maketh it waste <1110>(8802), and turneth <5753>(8765) it upside down <6440>, and scattereth abroad <6327>(8689) the inhabitants <3427>(8802) thereof.
2. And it shall be, as with the people <5971>, so with the priest <3548>; as with the servant <5650>, so with his master <113>; as with the maid <8198>, so with her mistress <1404>; as with the buyer <7069>(8802), so with the seller <4376>(8802); as with the lender <3867>(8688), so with the borrower <3867>(8801); as with the taker of usury <5383>(8802), so <834> with the giver of usury <5378>(8801) to him.
3. The land <776> shall be utterly <1238>(8736) emptied <1238>(8735), and utterly <962>(8736) spoiled <962>(8735): for the LORD <3068> hath spoken <1696>(8765) this word <1697>.
4. The earth <776> mourneth <56>(8804) and fadeth away <5034>(8804), the world <8398> languisheth <535>(8797) and fadeth away <5034>(8804), the haughty <4791> people <5971> of the earth <776> do languish <535>(8797).
5. The earth <776> also is defiled <2610>(8804) under the inhabitants <3427>(8802) thereof; because they have transgressed <5674>(8804) the laws <8451>, changed <2498>(8804) the ordinance <2706>, broken <6565>(8689) the everlasting <5769> covenant <1285>.
6. Therefore hath the curse <423> devoured <398>(8804) the earth <776>, and they that dwell <3427>(8802) therein are desolate <816>(8799): therefore the inhabitants <3427>(8802) of the earth <776> are burned <2787>(8804), and few <4213> men <582> left <7604>(8738).
7. The new wine <8492> mourneth <56>(8804), the vine <1612> languisheth <535>(8797), all the merryhearted <8056> <3820> do sigh <584>(8738).
8. The mirth <4885> of tabrets <8596> ceaseth <7673>(8804), the noise <7588> of them that rejoice <5947> endeth <2308>(8804), the joy <4885> of the harp <3658> ceaseth <7673>(8804).
9. They shall not drink <8354>(8799) wine <3196> with a song <7892>; strong drink <7941> shall be bitter <4843>(8799) to them that drink <8354>(8802) it.
10. The city <7151> of confusion <8414> is broken down <7665>(8738): every house <1004> is shut up <5462>(8795), that no man may come in <935>(8800).
11. There is a crying <6682> for wine <3196> in the streets <2351>; all joy <8057> is darkened <6150>(8804), the mirth <4885> of the land <776> is gone <1540>(8804).
12. In the city <5892> is left <7604>(8738) desolation <8047>, and the gate <8179> is smitten <3807>(8714) with destruction <7591>.
13. When thus it shall be in the midst <7130> of the land <776> among <8432> the people <5971>, there shall be as the shaking <5363> of an olive tree <2132>, and as the gleaning grapes <5955> when the vintage <1210> is done <3615>(8804).
14. They shall lift up <5375>(8799) their voice <6963>, they shall sing <7442>(8799) for the majesty <1347> of the LORD <3068>, they shall cry aloud <6670>(8804) from the sea <3220>.
15. Wherefore glorify <3513>(8761) ye the LORD <3068> in the fires <217>, even the name <8034> of the LORD <3068> God <430> of Israel <3478> in the isles <339> of the sea <3220>.
16. From the uttermost part <3671> of the earth <776> have we heard <8085>(8804) songs <2158>, even glory <6643> to the righteous <6662>. But I said <559>(8799), My leanness <7334>, my leanness <7334>, woe <188> unto me! the treacherous dealers <898>(8802) have dealt treacherously <898>(8804); yea, the treacherous dealers <898>(8802) have dealt very <899> treacherously <898>(8804).
17. Fear <6343>, and the pit <6354>, and the snare <6341>, are upon thee, O inhabitant <3427>(8802) of the earth <776>.
18. And it shall come to pass, that he who fleeth <5127>(8801) from the noise <6963> of the fear <6343> shall fall <5307>(8799) into the pit <6354>; and he that cometh up <5927>(8802) out of the midst <8432> of the pit <6354> shall be taken <3920>(8735) in the snare <6341>: for the windows <699> from on high <4791> are open <6605>(8738), and the foundations <4146> of the earth <776> do shake <7493>(8799).
19. The earth <776> is utterly <7489>(8800) broken down <7489>(8712), the earth <776> is clean <6565>(8800) dissolved <6565>(8707), the earth <776> is moved <4131>(8694) exceedingly <4131>(8800).
20. The earth <776> shall reel <5128>(8799) to and fro <5128>(8800) like a drunkard <7910>, and shall be removed <5110>(8712) like a cottage <4412>; and the transgression <6588> thereof shall be heavy <3513>(8804) upon it; and it shall fall <5307>(8804), and not rise <6965>(8800) again <3254>(8686).
21. And it shall come to pass in that day <3117>, that the LORD <3068> shall punish <6485>(8799) the host <6635> of the high ones <4791> that are on high <4791>, and the kings <4428> of the earth <127> upon the earth <127>.
22. And they shall be gathered together <622>(8795), as prisoners <616> are gathered <626> in the pit <953>, and shall be shut up <5462>(8795) in the prison <4525>, and after many <7230> days <3117> shall they be visited <6485>(8735).
23. Then the moon <3842> shall be confounded <2659>(8804), and the sun <2535> ashamed <954>(8804), when the LORD <3068> of hosts <6635> shall reign <4427>(8804) in mount <2022> Zion <6726>, and in Jerusalem <3389>, and before his ancients <2205> gloriously <3519>.
Notes that are not verse specific
The Law brought with it the curse of death (Gal 3:13). The Law was instituted as a temporary measure until Christ came (Gal 3:19). Christ could do what the Law could not do (Rom 8:3). Therefore, He could not be a priest after the order of the Law which He came to destroy. He had to be of a different order - that of Melchizedek (King of Righteousness). Similarly, the pre-Law promises to Abraham are bestowed on all true believers (Gal 3:29).
Michael Parry [Montreal (Can)] Comment added in 2005 Reply to Michael
7:28 "For the law appoints as high priests men who have weakness, but the word of the oath, which came after the law, appoints the Son who has been perfected forever. (NKJV) Since no direct quote specifies the oath recorded in Ps. 110 what oath is being referred to. This passage in Heb. 7 seems to indicate it was an oath made after the law. Is the oath referring to the promises made to David in 2 Sam 7:12-16?

Daily Readings & Thought for June 1st. “THE LORD OF HOSTS REIGNS ON MOUNT ZION”
This Days Readings:
Joshua 18 |
Isaiah 24 |
Hebrews 6 |
Hebrews 7 |
Today's readings.. (Joshua 18), (Isaiah 24), (Hebrews 6,7)
Today's and tomorrow's chapters in Isaiah (24 & 25) contain a powerful message about the climax of human history, yet they are not very often quoted. Chapter 24 ends with “for the LORD of hosts reigns on Mount Zion and Jerusalem and his glory will be before his elders.”
The next chapter begins with the reaction of the righteous, “O LORD, you are my God, I will exalt your name for you have done wonderful things ...” Humanly fortified cities have become ruins, never to be rebuilt (v.2) and the “cities of ruthless nations will fear you.” [v.3] God has “been a stronghold to the poor ... to the needy in his distress” [v.4]
Then a glorious scene opens up, “On this mountain the LORD of hosts will make for all peoples a feast of rich food ... he will swallow up death forever and the Lord GOD will wipe away tears from all faces ... Behold this is our God, we have waited for him ... “ [v.6,8,9]. But go back, we jumped over nearly all of Ch. 24 - it speaks of what is to happen before this time of wonder and joy on the earth. It is an extremely frightening picture! Is it about to happen? The chapter started, “Behold the LORD will empty the earth and make it desolate ...”
The next verse indicates that all the buyers, sellers, lenders, borrowers, creditors and debtors will suffer. Verse 3 says, “The earth shall be utterly empty and utterly plundered; for the LORD has spoken this word”. Then we read “the earth lies defiled under its inhabitants” [v.5], “its inhabitants suffer for their guilt” [v.6] and then follows details of the ways in which they will suffer.
Reading further - “The earth is utterly broken ... is violently shaken ... its transgression lies heavily upon it and it falls and will not rise again” [v.19,20]. This is symbolic language of the heavens and the earth (rulers and people) that now exist being destroyed. But later in Isaiah we will come across a wonderful vision, for God says, “For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth, and the former things shall not be remembered or come into mind. But be glad and rejoice forever in that which I create; for behold I create Jerusalem to be a joy ... my chosen shall long enjoy the work of their hands.” [Ch.65 v.17,18,22] Will you behold these things?

1. Therefore <1352> leaving <863>(5631) the principles <746> of the doctrine <3056> of Christ <5547>, let us go on <5342>(5747) unto <1909> perfection <5047>; not <3361> laying <2598>(5734) again <3825> the foundation <2310> of repentance <3341> from <575> dead <3498> works <2041>, and <2532> of faith <4102> toward <1909> God <2316>,

4. For <1063> it is impossible <102> for those who were once <530> enlightened <5461>(5685), and <5037> have tasted <1089>(5666) of the heavenly <2032> gift <1431>, and <2532> were made <1096>(5679) partakers <3353> of the Holy <40> Ghost <4151>,

8. But <1161> that which beareth <1627>(5723) thorns <173> and <2532> briers <5146> is rejected <96>, and <2532> is nigh <1451> unto cursing <2671>; whose <3739> end <5056> is to <1519> be burned <2740>.
9. But <1161>, beloved <27>, we are persuaded <3982>(5769) better things <2909> of <4012> you <5216>, and <2532> things that accompany <2192>(5746) salvation <4991>, though <1499> we <2980> <0> thus <3779> speak <2980>(5719).
10. For <1063> God <2316> is not <3756> unrighteous <94> to forget <1950>(5635) your <5216> work <2041> and <2532> labour <2873> of love <26>, which <3739> ye have shewed <1731>(5668)(5625) <1731>(5669) toward <1519> his <846> name <3686>, in that ye have ministered <1247>(5660) to the saints <40>, and <2532> do minister <1247>(5723).
11. And <1161> we desire <1937>(5719) that every one <1538> of you <5216> do shew <1731>(5733) the same <846> diligence <4710> to <4314> the full assurance <4136> of hope <1680> unto <891> the end <5056>:
12. That <2443> ye be <1096>(5638) not <3363> slothful <3576>, but <1161> followers <3402> of them who through <1223> faith <4102> and <2532> patience <3115> inherit <2816>(5723) the promises <1860>.
13. For <1063> when God <2316> made promise <1861>(5666) to Abraham <11>, because <1893> he could <2192>(5707) swear <3660>(5658) by <2596> no <3762> greater <3187>, he sware <3660>(5656) by <2596> himself <1438>,
14. Saying <3004>(5723), Surely <2229> <3375> blessing <2127>(5723) I will bless <2127>(5692) thee <4571>, and <2532> multiplying <4129>(5723) I will multiply <4129>(5692) thee <4571>.
15. And <2532> so <3779>, after he had patiently endured <3114>(5660), he obtained <2013>(5627) the promise <1860>.
16. For <1063> men <444> verily <3303> swear <3660>(5719) by <2596> the greater <3187>: and <2532> an oath <3727> for <1519> confirmation <951> is to them <846> an end <4009> of all <3956> strife <485>.
17. Wherein <1722> <3739> God <2316>, willing <1014>(5740) more abundantly <4054> to shew <1925>(5658) unto the heirs <2818> of promise <1860> the immutability <276> of his <848> counsel <1012>, confirmed <3315>(5656) it by an oath <3727>:
18. That <2443> by <1223> two <1417> immutable <276> things <4229>, in <1722> which <3739> it was impossible <102> for God <2316> to lie <5574>(5664), we might have <2192>(5725) a strong <2478> consolation <3874>, who <3588> have fled for refuge <2703>(5631) to lay hold <2902>(5658) upon the hope <1680> set before us <4295>(5740):
19. Which <3739> hope we have <2192>(5719) as <5613> an anchor <45> of the soul <5590>, both <5037> sure <804> and <2532> stedfast <949>, and <2532> which entereth <1525>(5740) into <1519> that within <2082> the veil <2665>;
20. Whither <3699> the forerunner <4274> is <1525> <0> for <5228> us <2257> entered <1525>(5627), even Jesus <2424>, made <1096>(5637) an high priest <749> for <1519> ever <165> after <2596> the order <5010> of Melchisedec <3198>.
1. For <1063> this <3778> Melchisedec <3198>, king <935> of Salem <4532>, priest <2409> of the most high <5310> God <2316>, who <3588> met <4876>(5660) Abraham <11> returning <5290>(5723) from <575> the slaughter <2871> of the kings <935>, and <2532> blessed <2127>(5660) him <846>;
2. To whom <3739> also <2532> Abraham <11> gave <3307>(5656) a tenth part <1181> of <575> all <3956>; first <4412> <3303> being by interpretation <2059>(5746) King <935> of righteousness <1343>, and <1161> after that <1899> also <2532> King <935> of Salem <4532>, which <3603> is <2076>(5748), King <935> of peace <1515>;
3. Without father <540>, without mother <282>, without descent <35>, having <2192>(5723) neither <3383> beginning <746> of days <2250>, nor <3383> end <5056> of life <2222>; but <1161> made like <871>(5772) unto the Son <5207> of God <2316>; abideth <3306>(5719) a priest <2409> continually <1519> <1336>.
4. Now <1161> consider <2334>(5719)(5720) how great <4080> this man <3778> was, unto whom <3739> even <2532> the patriarch <3966> Abraham <11> gave <1325>(5656) the tenth <1181> of <1537> the spoils <205>.
5. And <2532> verily <3303> they that are of <1537> the sons <5207> of Levi <3017>, who <3588> receive <2983>(5723) the office of the priesthood <2405>, have <2192>(5719) a commandment <1785> to take tithes <586>(5721) of the people <2992> according to <2596> the law <3551>, that is <5123>(5748), of their <848> brethren <80>, though <2539> they come <1831>(5761) out of <1537> the loins <3751> of Abraham <11>:
6. But <1161> he whose descent is <1075> <0> not <3361> counted <1075>(5746) from <1537> them <846> received tithes <1183>(5758) of Abraham <11>, and <2532> blessed <2127>(5758) him that had <2192>(5723) the promises <1860>.
7. And <1161> without <5565> all <3956> contradiction <485> the less <1640> is blessed <2127>(5743) of <5259> the better <2909>.
8. And <2532> here <5602> <3303> men <444> that die <599>(5723) receive <2983>(5719) tithes <1181>; but <1161> there <1563> he receiveth them, of whom it is witnessed <3140>(5746) that <3754> he liveth <2198>(5719).
9. And <2532> as <5613> I may so say <2031> <2036>(5629), Levi <3017> also <2532>, who <3588> receiveth <2983>(5723) tithes <1181>, payed tithes <1183>(5769) in <1223> Abraham <11>.
10. For <1063> he was <2258>(5713) yet <2089> in <1722> the loins <3751> of his father <3962>, when <3753> Melchisedec <3198> met <4876>(5656) him <846>.
11. If <1487> <3303> therefore <3767> perfection <5050> were <2258>(5713) by <1223> the Levitical <3020> priesthood <2420>, (for <1063> under <1909> it <846> the people <2992> received the law <3549>(5718),) what <5101> further <2089> need <5532> was there that another <2087> priest <2409> should rise <450>(5733) after <2596> the order <5010> of Melchisedec <3198>, and <2532> not <3756> be called <3004>(5745) after <2596> the order <5010> of Aaron <2>?
12. For <1063> the priesthood <2420> being changed <3346>(5746), there is made <1096>(5736) of <1537> necessity <318> a change <3331> also <2532> of the law <3551>.
13. For <1063> he of <1909> whom <3739> these things <5023> are spoken <3004>(5743) pertaineth <3348>(5758) to another <2087> tribe <5443>, of <575> which <3739> no man <3762> gave attendance <4337>(5758) at the altar <2379>.
14. For <1063> it is evident <4271> that <3754> our <2257> Lord <2962> sprang <393>(5758) out of <1537> Juda <2455>; of <1519> which <3739> tribe <5443> Moses <3475> spake <2980>(5656) nothing <3762> concerning <4012> priesthood <2420>.
15. And <2532> it is <2076>(5748) yet <2089> far more <4054> evident <2612>: for <1487> that after <2596> the similitude <3665> of Melchisedec <3198> there ariseth <450>(5731) another <2087> priest <2409>,
16. Who <3739> is made <1096>(5754), not <3756> after <2596> the law <3551> of a carnal <4559> commandment <1785>, but <235> after <2596> the power <1411> of an endless <179> life <2222>.
17. For <1063> he testifieth <3140>(5719), <3754> Thou <4771> art a priest <2409> for <1519> ever <165> after <2596> the order <5010> of Melchisedec <3198>.
18. For <1063> there is <1096>(5736) verily <3303> a disannulling <115> of the commandment <1785> going before <4254>(5723) for <1223> the weakness <772> and <2532> unprofitableness <512> thereof <846>.
19. For <1063> the law <3551> made <5048> <0> nothing <3762> perfect <5048>(5656), but <1161> the bringing in <1898> of a better <2909> hope <1680> did; by <1223> the which <3739> we draw nigh <1448>(5719) unto God <2316>.
20. And <2532> inasmuch as <2596> <3745> not <3756> without <5565> an oath <3728> he was made priest:
21. (For <1063> those priests <2409> were <3303> <1526>(5748) made <1096>(5756) without <5565> an oath <3728>; but <1161> this with <3326> an oath <3728> by <1223> him that said <3004>(5723) unto <4314> him <846>, The Lord <2962> sware <3660>(5656) and <2532> will <3338> <0> not <3756> repent <3338>(5700), Thou <4771> art a priest <2409> for <1519> ever <165> after <2596> the order <5010> of Melchisedec <3198>:)
22. By <2596> so much <5118> was <1096> <0> Jesus <2424> made <1096>(5754) a surety <1450> of a better <2909> testament <1242>.
23. And <2532> they <1526> <0> truly <3303> were <1526>(5748) <1096>(5756) many <4119> priests <2409>, because <1223> they were not suffered <2967>(5745) to continue <3887>(5721) by reason of <1223> death <2288>:
24. But <1161> this man, because <1223> he <846> continueth <3306>(5721) ever <1519> <165>, hath <2192>(5719) an unchangeable <531> priesthood <2420>.
25. Wherefore <3606> he is able <1410>(5736) also <2532> to save them <4982>(5721) to <1519> the uttermost <3838> that come <4334>(5740) unto God <2316> by <1223> him <846>, seeing he ever <3842> liveth <2198>(5723) to <1519> make intercession <1793>(5721) for <5228> them <846>.
26. For <1063> such <5108> an high priest <749> became <4241>(5707) us <2254>, who is holy <3741>, harmless <172>, undefiled <283>, separate <5563>(5772) from <575> sinners <268>, and <2532> made <1096>(5637) higher than <5308> the heavens <3772>;
27. Who <3739> needeth <2192>(5719) <318> not <3756> daily <2596> <2250>, as <5618> those high priests <749>, to offer up <399>(5721) sacrifice <2378>, first <4386> for <5228> his own <2398> sins <266>, and then <1899> for the people's <2992>: for <1063> this <5124> he did <4160>(5656) once <2178>, when he offered up <399>(5660) himself <1438>.
28. For <1063> the law <3551> maketh <2525>(5719) men <444> high priests <749> which have <2192>(5723) infirmity <769>; but <1161> the word <3056> of the oath <3728>, which <3588> was since <3326> the law <3551>, maketh the Son <5207>, who is consecrated <5048>(5772) for <1519> evermore <165>.
