Notes that are not verse specific
The Israelites were most impressed with David. "Whatsoever the king did pleased all the people". They could see what a godly man he was, and how well he compared with Saul. In the same way, our neighbours and work colleagues watch us. This provides us with a wonderful way to preach - just by being godly.

1. Now there was long <752> war <4421> between the house <1004> of Saul <7586> and the house <1004> of David <1732>: but David <1732> waxed <1980>(8802) stronger <2390> and stronger <2390>, and the house <1004> of Saul <7586> waxed <1980>(8802) weaker <1800> and weaker <1800>.
2. And unto David <1732> were sons <1121> born <3205>(8735)(8675) <3205>(8795) in Hebron <2275>: and his firstborn <1060> was Amnon <550>, of Ahinoam <293> the Jezreelitess <3159>;
3. And his second <4932>, Chileab <3609>, of Abigail <26> the wife <802> of Nabal <5037> the Carmelite <3761>; and the third <7992>, Absalom <53> the son <1121> of Maacah <4601> the daughter <1323> of Talmai <8526> king <4428> of Geshur <1650>;
4. And the fourth <7243>, Adonijah <138> the son <1121> of Haggith <2294>; and the fifth <2549>, Shephatiah <8203> the son <1121> of Abital <37>;
5. And the sixth <8345>, Ithream <3507>, by Eglah <5698> David's <1732> wife <802>. These were born <3205>(8795) to David <1732> in Hebron <2275>.
6. And it came to pass, while there was war <4421> between the house <1004> of Saul <7586> and the house <1004> of David <1732>, that Abner <74> made himself strong <2388>(8693) for the house <1004> of Saul <7586>.
7. And Saul <7586> had a concubine <6370>, whose name <8034> was Rizpah <7532>, the daughter <1323> of Aiah <345>: and Ishbosheth said <559>(8799) to Abner <74>, Wherefore hast thou gone in <935>(8804) unto my father's <1> concubine <6370>?
8. Then was Abner <74> very <3966> wroth <2734>(8799) for the words <1697> of Ishbosheth <378>, and said <559>(8799), Am I a dog's <3611> head <7218>, which against Judah <3063> do shew <6213>(8799) kindness <2617> this day <3117> unto the house <1004> of Saul <7586> thy father <1>, to his brethren <251>, and to his friends <4828>, and have not delivered <4672>(8689) thee into the hand <3027> of David <1732>, that thou chargest <6485>(8799) me to day <3117> with a fault <5771> concerning this woman <802>?
9. So do <6213>(8799) God <430> to Abner <74>, and more also <3254>(8686), except, as the LORD <3068> hath sworn <7650>(8738) to David <1732>, even so I do <6213>(8799) to him;
10. To translate <5674>(8687) the kingdom <4467> from the house <1004> of Saul <7586>, and to set up <6965>(8687) the throne <3678> of David <1732> over Israel <3478> and over Judah <3063>, from Dan <1835> even to Beersheba <884>.
11. And he could <3201>(8804) not answer <7725>(8687) Abner <74> a word <1697> again, because he feared <3372>(8800) him.
12. And Abner <74> sent <7971>(8799) messengers <4397> to David <1732> on his behalf, saying <559>(8800), Whose is the land <776>? saying <559>(8800) also, Make <3772>(8798) thy league <1285> with me, and, behold, my hand <3027> shall be with thee, to bring about <5437>(8687) all Israel <3478> unto thee.
13. And he said <559>(8799), Well <2896>; I will make <3772>(8799) a league <1285> with thee: but one <259> thing <1697> I require <7592>(8802) of thee, that is <559>(8800), Thou shalt not see <7200>(8799) my face <6440>, except thou first <6440> bring <935>(8687) Michal <4324> Saul's <7586> daughter <1323>, when thou comest <935>(8800) to see <7200>(8800) my face <6440>.
14. And David <1732> sent <7971>(8799) messengers <4397> to Ishbosheth <378> Saul's <7586> son <1121>, saying <559>(8800), Deliver <5414>(8798) me my wife <802> Michal <4324>, which I espoused <781>(8765) to me for an hundred <3967> foreskins <6190> of the Philistines <6430>.
15. And Ishbosheth <378> sent <7971>(8799), and took <3947>(8799) her from her husband <376>, even from Phaltiel <6409> the son <1121> of Laish <3889>(8675) <3919>.
16. And her husband <376> went <3212>(8799) with her along weeping <1980>(8800) <1058>(8800) behind <310> her to Bahurim <980>. Then said <559>(8799) Abner <74> unto him, Go <3212>(8798), return <7725>(8798). And he returned <7725>(8799).
17. And Abner <74> had communication <1961>(8804) <1697> with the elders <2205> of Israel <3478>, saying <559>(8800), Ye sought <1245>(8764) for David <1732> in times <8543> past <8032> to be king <4428> over you:
18. Now then do <6213>(8798) it: for the LORD <3068> hath spoken <559>(8804) of David <1732>, saying <559>(8800), By the hand <3027> of my servant <5650> David <1732> I will save <3467>(8687) my people <5971> Israel <3478> out of the hand <3027> of the Philistines <6430>, and out of the hand <3027> of all their enemies <341>(8802).
19. And Abner <74> also spake <1696>(8762) in the ears <241> of Benjamin <1144>: and Abner <74> went <3212>(8799) also to speak <1696>(8763) in the ears <241> of David <1732> in Hebron <2275> all that seemed <5869> good <2896> to Israel <3478>, and that seemed good <5869> to the whole house <1004> of Benjamin <1144>.
20. So Abner <74> came <935>(8799) to David <1732> to Hebron <2275>, and twenty <6242> men <582> with him. And David <1732> made <6213>(8799) Abner <74> and the men <582> that were with him a feast <4960>.
21. And Abner <74> said <559>(8799) unto David <1732>, I will arise <6965>(8799) and go <3212>(8799), and will gather <6908>(8799) all Israel <3478> unto my lord <113> the king <4428>, that they may make <3772>(8799) a league <1285> with thee, and that thou mayest reign <4427>(8804) over all that thine heart <5315> desireth <183>(8762). And David <1732> sent <7971> <0> Abner <74> away <7971>(8762); and he went <3212>(8799) in peace <7965>.
22. And, behold, the servants <5650> of David <1732> and Joab <3097> came <935>(8802) from pursuing a troop <1416>, and brought in <935>(8689) a great <7227> spoil <7998> with them: but Abner <74> was not with David <1732> in Hebron <2275>; for he had sent him away <7971>(8765), and he was gone <3212>(8799) in peace <7965>.
23. When Joab <3097> and all the host <6635> that was with him were come <935>(8804), they told <5046>(8686) Joab <3097>, saying <559>(8800), Abner <74> the son <1121> of Ner <5369> came <935>(8804) to the king <4428>, and he hath sent him away <7971>(8762), and he is gone <3212>(8799) in peace <7965>.
24. Then Joab <3097> came <935>(8799) to the king <4428>, and said <559>(8799), What hast thou done <6213>(8804)? behold, Abner <74> came <935>(8802) unto thee; why is it that thou hast sent him away <7971>(8765), and he is quite <1980>(8800) gone <3212>(8799)?
25. Thou knowest <3045>(8804) Abner <74> the son <1121> of Ner <5369>, that he came <935>(8804) to deceive <6601>(8763) thee, and to know <3045>(8800) thy going out <4161> and thy coming in <4126>(8675) <3996>, and to know <3045>(8800) all that thou doest <6213>(8802).
26. And when Joab <3097> was come out <3318>(8799) from David <1732>, he sent <7971>(8799) messengers <4397> after <310> Abner <74>, which brought him again <7725>(8686) from the well <953> of Sirah <5626>: but David <1732> knew <3045>(8804) it not.
27. And when Abner <74> was returned <7725>(8799) to Hebron <2275>, Joab <3097> took him aside <5186>(8686) in <413> <8432> the gate <8179> to speak <1696>(8763) with him quietly <7987>, and smote <5221>(8686) him there under the fifth <2570> rib, that he died <4191>(8799), for the blood <1818> of Asahel <6214> his brother <251>.
28. And afterward <310> when David <1732> heard <8085>(8799) it, he said <559>(8799), I and my kingdom <4467> are guiltless <5355> before the LORD <3068> for <5704> ever <5769> from the blood <1818> of Abner <74> the son <1121> of Ner <5369>:
29. Let it rest <2342>(8799) on the head <7218> of Joab <3097>, and on all his father's <1> house <1004>; and let there not fail <3772>(8735) from the house <1004> of Joab <3097> one that hath an issue <2100>(8802), or that is a leper <6879>(8794), or that leaneth <2388>(8688) on a staff <6418>, or that falleth <5307>(8802) on the sword <2719>, or that lacketh <2638> bread <3899>.
30. So Joab <3097> and Abishai <52> his brother <251> slew <2026>(8804) Abner <74>, because he had slain <4191>(8689) their brother <251> Asahel <6214> at Gibeon <1391> in the battle <4421>.
31. And David <1732> said <559>(8799) to Joab <3097>, and to all the people <5971> that were with him, Rend <7167>(8798) your clothes <899>, and gird <2296>(8798) you with sackcloth <8242>, and mourn <5594>(8798) before <6440> Abner <74>. And king <4428> David <1732> himself followed <1980>(8802) <310> the bier <4296>.
32. And they buried <6912>(8799) Abner <74> in Hebron <2275>: and the king <4428> lifted up <5375>(8799) his voice <6963>, and wept <1058>(8799) at the grave <6913> of Abner <74>; and all the people <5971> wept <1058>(8799).
33. And the king <4428> lamented <6969>(8787) over Abner <74>, and said <559>(8799), Died <4191>(8799) Abner <74> as a fool <5036> dieth <4194>?
34. Thy hands <3027> were not bound <631>(8803), nor thy feet <7272> put <5066>(8717) into fetters <5178>: as a man falleth <5307>(8800) before <6440> wicked <5766> men <1121>, so fellest <5307>(8804) thou. And all the people <5971> wept <1058>(8800) again <3254>(8686) over him.
35. And when all <3605> the people <5971> came <935>(8799) to cause <1262> <0> David <1732> to eat <1262>(8687) meat <3899> while it was yet <5750> day <3117>, David <1732> sware <7650>(8735), saying <559>(8800), So do <6213>(8799) God <430> to me, and more also <3254>(8686), if I taste <2938>(8799) bread <3899>, or ought <3972> else, till <6440> the sun <8121> be down <935>(8800).
36. And all the people <5971> took notice <5234>(8689) of it, and it pleased <3190>(8799) <5869> them: as whatsoever the king <4428> did <6213>(8804) pleased <5869> <2896> all the people <5971>.
37. For all the people <5971> and all Israel <3478> understood <3045>(8799) that day <3117> that it was not of the king <4428> to slay <4191>(8687) Abner <74> the son <1121> of Ner <5369>.
38. And the king <4428> said <559>(8799) unto his servants <5650>, Know <3045>(8799) ye not that there is a prince <8269> and a great man <1419> fallen <5307>(8804) this day <3117> in Israel <3478>?
39. And I am this day <3117> weak <7390>, though anointed <4886>(8803) king <4428>; and these men <582> the sons <1121> of Zeruiah <6870> be too hard <7186> for me: the LORD <3068> shall reward <7999>(8762) the doer of evil <6213>(8802) according to his wickedness <7451>.

1. Oh that <5414>(8799) my head <7218> were waters <4325>, and mine eyes <5869> a fountain <4726> of tears <1832>, that I might weep <1058>(8799) day <3119> and night <3915> for the slain <2491> of the daughter <1323> of my people <5971>!
2. Oh that <5414>(8799) I had in the wilderness <4057> a lodging place <4411> of wayfaring men <732>(8802); that I might leave <5800>(8799) my people <5971>, and go <3212>(8799) from them! for they be all adulterers <5003>(8764), an assembly <6116> of treacherous men <898>(8802).
3. And they bend <1869>(8686) their tongues <3956> like their bow <7198> for lies <8267>: but they are not valiant <1396>(8804) for the truth <530> upon the earth <776>; for they proceed <3318>(8804) from evil <7451> to evil <7451>, and they know <3045>(8804) not me, saith <5002>(8803) the LORD <3068>.
4. Take ye heed <8104>(8734) every one <376> of his neighbour <7453>, and trust <982>(8799) ye not in any brother <251>: for every brother <251> will utterly <6117>(8800) supplant <6117>(8799), and every neighbour <7453> will walk <1980>(8799) with slanders <7400>.
5. And they will deceive <2048>(8762) every one <376> his neighbour <7453>, and will not speak <1696>(8762) the truth <571>: they have taught <3925>(8765) their tongue <3956> to speak <1696>(8763) lies <8267>, and weary <3811>(8738) themselves to commit iniquity <5753>(8687).
6. Thine habitation <3427>(8800) is in the midst <8432> of deceit <4820>; through deceit <4820> they refuse <3985>(8765) to know <3045>(8800) me, saith <5002>(8803) the LORD <3068>.
7. Therefore thus saith <559>(8804) the LORD <3068> of hosts <6635>, Behold, I will melt <6884>(8802) them, and try <974>(8804) them; for how shall I do <6213>(8799) for <6440> the daughter <1323> of my people <5971>?
8. Their tongue <3956> is as an arrow <2671> shot out <7819>(8803); it speaketh <1696>(8765) deceit <4820>: one speaketh <1696>(8762) peaceably <7965> to his neighbour <7453> with his mouth <6310>, but in heart <7130> he layeth <7760>(8799) his wait <696>.
9. Shall I not visit <6485>(8799) them for these things? saith <5002>(8803) the LORD <3068>: shall not my soul <5315> be avenged <5358>(8691) on such a nation <1471> as this?
10. For the mountains <2022> will I take up <5375>(8799) a weeping <1065> and wailing <5092>, and for the habitations <4999> of the wilderness <4057> a lamentation <7015>, because they are burned up <3341>(8738), so that none <376> can pass <5674>(8802) through them; neither can men hear <8085>(8804) the voice <6963> of the cattle <4735>; both the fowl <5775> of the heavens <8064> and the beast <929> are fled <5074>(8804); they are gone <1980>(8804).
11. And I will make <5414>(8804) Jerusalem <3389> heaps <1530>, and a den <4583> of dragons <8577>; and I will make <5414>(8799) the cities <5892> of Judah <3063> desolate <8077>, without an inhabitant <3427>(8802).
12. Who is the wise <2450> man <376>, that may understand <995>(8799) this? and who is he to whom the mouth <6310> of the LORD <3068> hath spoken <1696>(8765), that he may declare <5046>(8686) it, for what the land <776> perisheth <6>(8804) and is burned up <3341>(8738) like a wilderness <4057>, that none passeth through <5674>(8802)?
13. And the LORD <3068> saith <559>(8799), Because they have forsaken <5800>(8800) my law <8451> which I set <5414>(8804) before <6440> them, and have not obeyed <8085>(8804) my voice <6963>, neither walked <1980>(8804) therein;
14. But have walked <3212>(8799) after <310> the imagination <8307> of their own heart <3820>, and after <310> Baalim <1168>, which their fathers <1> taught <3925>(8765) them:
15. Therefore thus saith <559>(8804) the LORD <3068> of hosts <6635>, the God <430> of Israel <3478>; Behold, I will feed <398>(8688) them, even this people <5971>, with wormwood <3939>, and give them water <4325> of gall <7219> to drink <8248>(8689).
16. I will scatter <6327>(8689) them also among the heathen <1471>, whom neither they nor their fathers <1> have known <3045>(8804): and I will send <7971>(8765) a sword <2719> after <310> them, till I have consumed <3615>(8763) them.
17. Thus saith <559>(8804) the LORD <3068> of hosts <6635>, Consider <995>(8708) ye, and call <7121>(8798) for the mourning women <6969>(8789), that they may come <935>(8799); and send <7971>(8798) for cunning <2450> women, that they may come <935>(8799):
18. And let them make haste <4116>(8762), and take up <5375>(8799) a wailing <5092> for us, that our eyes <5869> may run down <3381>(8799) with tears <1832>, and our eyelids <6079> gush out <5140>(8799) with waters <4325>.
19. For a voice <6963> of wailing <5092> is heard <8085>(8738) out of Zion <6726>, How are we spoiled <7703>(8795)! we are greatly <3966> confounded <954>(8804), because we have forsaken <5800>(8804) the land <776>, because our dwellings <4908> have cast us out <7993>(8689).
20. Yet hear <8085>(8798) the word <1697> of the LORD <3068>, O ye women <802>, and let your ear <241> receive <3947>(8799) the word <1697> of his mouth <6310>, and teach <3925>(8761) your daughters <1323> wailing <5092>, and every one <802> her neighbour <7468> lamentation <7015>.
21. For death <4194> is come up <5927>(8804) into our windows <2474>, and is entered <935>(8804) into our palaces <759>, to cut off <3772>(8687) the children <5768> from without <2351>, and the young men <970> from the streets <7339>.
22. Speak <1696>(8761), Thus saith <5002>(8803) the LORD <3068>, Even the carcases <5038> of men <120> shall fall <5307>(8804) as dung <1828> upon the open <6440> field <7704>, and as the handful <5995> after <310> the harvestman <7114>(8802), and none shall gather <622>(8764) them.
23. Thus saith <559>(8804) the LORD <3068>, Let not the wise <2450> man glory <1984>(8691) in his wisdom <2451>, neither let the mighty <1368> man glory <1984>(8691) in his might <1369>, let not the rich <6223> man glory <1984>(8691) in his riches <6239>:
24. But let him that glorieth <1984>(8693) glory <1984>(8691) in this, that he understandeth <7919>(8687) and knoweth <3045>(8800) me, that I am the LORD <3068> which exercise <6213>(8802) lovingkindness <2617>, judgment <4941>, and righteousness <6666>, in the earth <776>: for in these things I delight <2654>(8804), saith <5002>(8803) the LORD <3068>.
25. Behold, the days <3117> come <935>(8802), saith <5002>(8803) the LORD <3068>, that I will punish <6485>(8804) all them which are circumcised <4135>(8803) with the uncircumcised <6190>;
26. Egypt <4714>, and Judah <3063>, and Edom <123>, and the children <1121> of Ammon <5983>, and Moab <4124>, and all that are in the utmost <7112>(8803) corners <6285>, that dwell <3427>(8802) in the wilderness <4057>: for all these nations <1471> are uncircumcised <6189>, and all the house <1004> of Israel <3478> are uncircumcised <6189> in the heart <3820>.

1. For <1063> the kingdom <932> of heaven <3772> is <2076>(5748) like <3664> unto a man <444> that is an householder <3617>, which <3748> went out <1831>(5627) early in the morning <260> <4404> to hire <3409>(5670) labourers <2040> into <1519> his <848> vineyard <290>.
2. And <1161> when he had agreed <4856>(5660) with <3326> the labourers <2040> for <1537> a penny <1220> a day <2250>, he sent <649>(5656) them <846> into <1519> his <848> vineyard <290>.
3. And <2532> he went out <1831>(5631) about <4012> the third <5154> hour <5610>, and saw <1492>(5627) others <243> standing <2476>(5761) idle <692> in <1722> the marketplace <58>,
4. And said <2036>(5627) unto them <2548>; Go <5217>(5720) ye <5210> also <2532> into <1519> the vineyard <290>, and <2532> whatsoever <1437> is <5600>(5753) right <1342> I will give <1325>(5692) you <5213>. And <1161> they went their way <565>(5627).
5. Again <3825> he went out <1831>(5631) about <4012> the sixth <1623> and <2532> ninth <1766> hour <5610>, and did <4160>(5656) likewise <5615>.
6. And <1161> about <4012> the eleventh <1734> hour <5610> he went out <1831>(5631), and found <2147>(5627) others <243> standing <2476>(5761) idle <692>, and <2532> saith <3004>(5719) unto them <846>, Why <5101> stand ye <2476>(5758) here <5602> all <3650> the day <2250> idle <692>?
7. They say <3004>(5719) unto him <846>, Because <3754> no man <3762> hath hired <3409>(5668) us <2248>. He saith <3004>(5719) unto them <846>, Go <5217>(5720) ye <5210> also <2532> into <1519> the vineyard <290>; and <2532> whatsoever <1437> is <5600>(5753) right <1342>, that shall ye receive <2983>(5695).
8. So <1161> when even <3798> was come <1096>(5637), the lord <2962> of the vineyard <290> saith <3004>(5719) unto his <848> steward <2012>, Call <2564>(5657) the labourers <2040>, and <2532> give <591>(5628) them <846> their hire <3408>, beginning <756>(5671) from <575> the last <2078> unto <2193> the first <4413>.
9. And <2532> when they came <2064>(5631) that were hired about <4012> the eleventh <1734> hour <5610>, they received <2983>(5627) every man <303> a penny <1220>.
10. But <1161> when the first <4413> came <2064>(5631), they supposed <3543>(5656) that <3754> they should have received <2983>(5695) more <4119>; and <2532> they likewise <2532> received <2983>(5627) every man <303> a penny <1220>.
11. And <1161> when they had received <2983>(5631) it, they murmured <1111>(5707) against <2596> the goodman of the house <3617>,
12. <3754> Saying <3004>(5723), These <3778> last <2078> have wrought <4160>(5656) but one <3391> hour <5610>, and <2532> thou hast made <4160>(5656) them <846> equal <2470> unto us <2254>, which <3588> have borne <941>(5660) the burden <922> and <2532> heat <2742> of the day <2250>.
13. But <1161> he answered <611>(5679) one <1520> of them <846>, and said <2036>(5627), Friend <2083>, I do <91> <0> thee <4571> no <3756> wrong <91>(5719): didst <4856> <0> not <3780> thou agree <4856>(5656) with me <3427> for a penny <1220>?
14. Take <142>(5657) that thine <4674> is, and <2532> go thy way <5217>(5720): <1161> I will <2309>(5719) give <1325>(5629) unto this <5129> last <2078>, even <2532> as <5613> unto thee <4671>.
15. <2228> Is it not <3756> lawful <1832>(5748) for me <3427> to do <4160>(5658) what <3739> I will <2309>(5719)(5725) with <1722> mine own <1699>? <2228> Is <2076>(5748) thine <4675> eye <3788> evil <4190>, because <3754> I <1473> am <1510>(5748) good <18>?
16. So <3779> the last <2078> shall be <2071>(5704) first <4413>, and <2532> the first <4413> last <2078>: for <1063> many <4183> be <1526>(5748) called <2822>, but <1161> few <3641> chosen <1588>.
17. And <2532> Jesus <2424> going up <305>(5723) to <1519> Jerusalem <2414> took <3880>(5627) the twelve <1427> disciples <3101> apart <2596> <2398> in <1722> the way <3598>, and <2532> said <2036>(5627) unto them <846>,
18. Behold <2400>(5628), we go up <305>(5719) to <1519> Jerusalem <2414>; and <2532> the Son <5207> of man <444> shall be betrayed <3860>(5701) unto the chief priests <749> and <2532> unto the scribes <1122>, and <2532> they shall condemn <2632>(5692) him <846> to death <2288>,
19. And <2532> shall deliver <3860>(5692) him <846> to the Gentiles <1484> to <1519> mock <1702>(5658), and <2532> to scourge <3146>(5658), and <2532> to crucify <4717>(5658) him: and <2532> the third <5154> day <2250> he shall rise again <450>(5698).
20. Then <5119> came <4334>(5627) to him <846> the mother <3384> of Zebedee's <2199> children <5207> with <3326> her <848> sons <5207>, worshipping <4352>(5723) him, and <2532> desiring <154>(5723) a certain <5100> thing <3844> of him <846>.
21. And <1161> he said <2036>(5627) unto her <846>, What <5101> wilt thou <2309>(5719)? She saith <3004>(5719) unto him <846>, Grant <2036>(5628) that <2443> these <3778> my <3450> two <1417> sons <5207> may sit <2523>(5661), the one <1520> on <1537> thy <4675> right hand <1188>, and <2532> the other <1520> on <1537> the left <2176>, in <1722> thy <4675> kingdom <932>.
22. But <1161> Jesus <2424> answered <611>(5679) and said <2036>(5627), Ye know <1492>(5758) not <3756> what <5101> ye ask <154>(5731). Are ye able <1410>(5736) to drink <4095>(5629) of the cup <4221> that I <1473> shall <3195>(5719) drink of <4095>(5721), and <2532> to be baptized <907>(5743) with the baptism <908> that <3739> I <1473> am baptized with <907>(5683)? They say <3004>(5719) unto him <846>, We are able <1410>(5736).
23. And <2532> he saith <3004>(5719) unto them <846>, Ye shall drink <4095>(5695) indeed <3303> of my <3450> cup <4221>, and <2532> be baptized <907>(5743) with the baptism <908> that <3739> I <1473> am baptized with <907>(5701): but <1161> to sit <2523>(5658) on <1537> my <3450> right hand <1188>, and <2532> on <1537> my <3450> left <2176>, is <2076>(5748) not <3756> mine <1699> to give <1325>(5629), but <235> it shall be given to them for whom <3739> it is prepared <2090>(5769) of <5259> my <3450> Father <3962>.
24. And <2532> when the ten <1176> heard <191>(5660) it, they were moved with indignation <23>(5656) against <4012> the two <1417> brethren <80>.
25. But <1161> Jesus <2424> called <4341>(5666) them <846> unto him, and said <2036>(5627), Ye know <1492>(5758) that <3754> the princes <758> of the Gentiles <1484> exercise dominion over <2634>(5719) them <846>, and <2532> they that are great <3173> exercise authority upon <2715>(5719) them <846>.
26. But <1161> it shall <2071> <0> not <3756> be <2071>(5704) so <3779> among <1722> you <5213>: but <235> whosoever <1437> will <2309>(5725) be <1096>(5635) great <3173> among <1722> you <5213>, let him be <2077>(5749) your <5216> minister <1249>;
27. And <2532> whosoever <1437> will <2309>(5725) be <1511>(5750) chief <4413> among <1722> you <5213>, let him be <2077>(5749) your <5216> servant <1401>:
28. Even as <5618> the Son <5207> of man <444> came <2064>(5627) not <3756> to be ministered unto <1247>(5683), but <235> to minister <1247>(5658), and <2532> to give <1325>(5629) his <848> life <5590> a ransom <3083> for <473> many <4183>.
29. And <2532> as they departed <1607>(5740) from <575> Jericho <2410>, a great <4183> multitude <3793> followed <190>(5656) him <846>.
30. And <2532>, behold <2400>(5628), two <1417> blind men <5185> sitting <2521>(5740) by the way <3598> side <3844>, when they heard <191>(5660) that <3754> Jesus <2424> passed by <3855>(5719), cried out <2896>(5656), saying <3004>(5723), Have mercy <1653>(5657) on us <2248>, O Lord <2962>, thou Son <5207> of David <1138>.
31. And <1161> the multitude <3793> rebuked <2008>(5656) them <846>, because <2443> they should hold their peace <4623>(5661): but <1161> they cried <2896>(5707) the more <3185>, saying <3004>(5723), Have mercy <1653>(5657) on us <2248>, O Lord <2962>, thou Son <5207> of David <1138>.
32. And <2532> Jesus <2424> stood still <2476>(5631), and called <5455>(5656) them <846>, and <2532> said <2036>(5627), What <5101> will ye <2309>(5719) that I shall do <4160>(5661) unto you <5213>?
33. They say <3004>(5719) unto him <846>, Lord <2962>, that <2443> our <2257> eyes <3788> may be opened <455>(5686).
34. So <1161> Jesus <2424> had compassion <4697>(5679) on them, and touched <680>(5662) their <846> eyes <3788>: and <2532> immediately <2112> their <846> eyes <3788> received sight <308>(5656), and <2532> they followed <190>(5656) him <846>.
