Notes that are not verse specific
The tragedy is that Hezekiah, the good king, had a son in his old age who was an appalling example of evil. So faithful men do not always have faithful sons. A comfort to those of us with children who have not accepted the gospel (yet) - remember that Manasseh repented at the end of his life!
Peter Forbes [Mountsorrel (UK)] Comment added in 2002 Reply to Peter
Hezekiah begged for and received an extension to his life. During his fifteen years of overtime, Manasseh was born.
Yahweh might grant us our wishes even though he knows that negative things might result. Before we ask Yahweh for anything, it is important to consider: For what we are asking? What are our motives for asking?

1. Manasseh <4519> was twelve <8147> <6240> years <8141> old <1121> when he began to reign <4427>(8800), and reigned <4427>(8804) fifty <2572> and five <2568> years <8141> in Jerusalem <3389>. And his mother's <517> name <8034> was Hephzibah <2657>.
2. And he did <6213>(8799) that which was evil <7451> in the sight <5869> of the LORD <3068>, after the abominations <8441> of the heathen <1471>, whom the LORD <3068> cast out <3423>(8689) before <6440> the children <1121> of Israel <3478>.
3. For he built up <1129>(8799) again <7725>(8799) the high places <1116> which Hezekiah <2396> his father <1> had destroyed <6>(8765); and he reared up <6965>(8686) altars <4196> for Baal <1168>, and made <6213>(8799) a grove <842>, as did <6213>(8804) Ahab <256> king <4428> of Israel <3478>; and worshipped <7812>(8691) all the host <6635> of heaven <8064>, and served <5647>(8799) them.
4. And he built <1129>(8804) altars <4196> in the house <1004> of the LORD <3068>, of which the LORD <3068> said <559>(8804), In Jerusalem <3389> will I put <7760>(8799) my name <8034>.
5. And he built <1129>(8799) altars <4196> for all the host <6635> of heaven <8064> in the two <8147> courts <2691> of the house <1004> of the LORD <3068>.
6. And he made his son <1121> pass <5674>(8689) through the fire <784>, and observed times <6049>(8782), and used enchantments <5172>(8765), and dealt <6213>(8804) with familiar spirits <178> and wizards <3049>: he wrought <6213>(8800) much <7235>(8689) wickedness <7451> in the sight <5869> of the LORD <3068>, to provoke him to anger <3707>(8687).
7. And he set <7760>(8799) a graven image <6459> of the grove <842> that he had made <6213>(8804) in the house <1004>, of which the LORD <3068> said <559>(8804) to David <1732>, and to Solomon <8010> his son <1121>, In this house <1004>, and in Jerusalem <3389>, which I have chosen <977>(8804) out of all tribes <7626> of Israel <3478>, will I put <7760>(8799) my name <8034> for ever <5769>:
8. Neither will I make the feet <7272> of Israel <3478> move <5110>(8687) any more <3254>(8686) out of the land <127> which I gave <5414>(8804) their fathers <1>; only if they will observe <8104>(8799) to do <6213>(8800) according to all that I have commanded <6680>(8765) them, and according to all the law <8451> that my servant <5650> Moses <4872> commanded <6680>(8765) them.
9. But they hearkened <8085>(8804) not: and Manasseh <4519> seduced <8582>(8686) them to do <6213>(8800) more evil <7451> than did the nations <1471> whom the LORD <3068> destroyed <8045>(8689) before <6440> the children <1121> of Israel <3478>.
10. And the LORD <3068> spake <1696>(8762) by <3027> his servants <5650> the prophets <5030>, saying <559>(8800),
11. Because Manasseh <4519> king <4428> of Judah <3063> hath done <6213>(8804) these abominations <8441>, and hath done wickedly <7489>(8689) above all that the Amorites <567> did <6213>(8804), which were before <6440> him, and hath made Judah <3063> also to sin <2398>(8686) with his idols <1544>:
12. Therefore thus saith <559>(8804) the LORD <3068> God <430> of Israel <3478>, Behold, I am bringing <935>(8688) such evil <7451> upon Jerusalem <3389> and Judah <3063>, that whosoever heareth <8085>(8802) of it, both <8147> his ears <241> shall tingle <6750>(8799).
13. And I will stretch <5186>(8804) over Jerusalem <3389> the line <6957> of Samaria <8111>, and the plummet <4949> of the house <1004> of Ahab <256>: and I will wipe <4229>(8804) Jerusalem <3389> as a man wipeth <4229>(8799) a dish <6747>, wiping <4229>(8804) it, and turning <2015>(8804) it upside down <6440>.
14. And I will forsake <5203>(8804) the remnant <7611> of mine inheritance <5159>, and deliver <5414>(8804) them into the hand <3027> of their enemies <341>(8802); and they shall become a prey <957> and a spoil <4933> to all their enemies <341>(8802);
15. Because they have done <6213>(8804) that which was evil <7451> in my sight <5869>, and have provoked <4480> me to anger <3707>(8688), since the day <3117> their fathers <1> came forth <3318>(8804) out of Egypt <4714>, even unto this day <3117>.
16. Moreover Manasseh <4519> shed <8210>(8804) innocent <5355> blood <1818> very <3966> much <7235>(8687), till he had filled <4390>(8765) Jerusalem <3389> from one end <6310> to another <6310>; beside his sin <2403> wherewith he made Judah <3063> to sin <2398>(8689), in doing <6213>(8800) that which was evil <7451> in the sight <5869> of the LORD <3068>.
17. Now the rest <3499> of the acts <1697> of Manasseh <4519>, and all that he did <6213>(8804), and his sin <2403> that he sinned <2398>(8804), are they not written <3789>(8803) in the book <5612> of the chronicles <1697> <3117> of the kings <4428> of Judah <3063>?
18. And Manasseh <4519> slept <7901>(8799) with his fathers <1>, and was buried <6912>(8735) in the garden <1588> of his own house <1004>, in the garden <1588> of Uzza <5798>: and Amon <526> his son <1121> reigned <4427>(8799) in his stead.
19. Amon <526> was twenty <6242> and two <8147> years <8141> old <1121> when he began to reign <4427>(8800), and he reigned <4427>(8804) two <8147> years <8141> in Jerusalem <3389>. And his mother's <517> name <8034> was Meshullemeth <4922>, the daughter <1323> of Haruz <2743> of Jotbah <3192>.
20. And he did <6213>(8799) that which was evil <7451> in the sight <5869> of the LORD <3068>, as his father <1> Manasseh <4519> did <6213>(8804).
21. And he walked <3212>(8799) in all the way <1870> that his father <1> walked in <1980>(8804), and served <5647>(8799) the idols <1544> that his father <1> served <5647>(8804), and worshipped <7812>(8691) them:
22. And he forsook <5800>(8799) the LORD <3068> God <430> of his fathers <1>, and walked <1980>(8804) not in the way <1870> of the LORD <3068>.
23. And the servants <5650> of Amon <526> conspired <7194>(8799) against him, and slew <4191>(8686) the king <4428> in his own house <1004>.
24. And the people <5971> of the land <776> slew <5221>(8686) all them that had conspired <7194>(8802) against king <4428> Amon <526>; and the people <5971> of the land <776> made Josiah <2977> his son <1121> king <4427>(8686) in his stead.
25. Now the rest <3499> of the acts <1697> of Amon <526> which he did <6213>(8804), are they not written <3789>(8803) in the book <5612> of the chronicles <1697> <3117> of the kings <4428> of Judah <3063>?
26. And he was buried <6912>(8799) in his sepulchre <6900> in the garden <1588> of Uzza <5798>: and Josiah <2977> his son <1121> reigned <4427>(8799) in his stead.

14:22 There was to be a remnant because God had already said – Jer 30:11 - that he would not make a full end of Israel.

1. Moreover the spirit <7307> lifted me up <5375>(8799), and brought <935>(8686) me unto the east <6931> gate <8179> of the LORD'S <3068> house <1004>, which looketh <6437>(8802) eastward <6921>: and behold at the door <6607> of the gate <8179> five <2568> and twenty <6242> men <376>; among <8432> whom I saw <7200>(8799) Jaazaniah <2970> the son <1121> of Azur <5809>, and Pelatiah <6410> the son <1121> of Benaiah <1141>, princes <8269> of the people <5971>.
2. Then said <559>(8799) he unto me, Son <1121> of man <120>, these are the men <582> that devise <2803>(8802) mischief <205>, and give <3289>(8802) wicked <7451> counsel <6098> in this city <5892>:
3. Which say <559>(8802), It is not near <7138>; let us build <1129>(8800) houses <1004>: this city is the caldron <5518>, and we be the flesh <1320>.
4. Therefore prophesy <5012>(8734) against them, prophesy <5012>(8734), O son <1121> of man <120>.
5. And the Spirit <7307> of the LORD <3068> fell <5307>(8799) upon me, and said <559>(8799) unto me, Speak <559>(8798); Thus saith <559>(8804) the LORD <3068>; Thus have ye said <559>(8799), O house <1004> of Israel <3478>: for I know <3045>(8804) the things that come <4609> into your mind <7307>, every one of them.
6. Ye have multiplied <7235>(8689) your slain <2491> in this city <5892>, and ye have filled <4390>(8765) the streets <2351> thereof with the slain <2491>.
7. Therefore thus saith <559>(8804) the Lord <136> GOD <3069>; Your slain <2491> whom ye have laid <7760>(8804) in the midst <8432> of it, they are the flesh <1320>, and this city is the caldron <5518>: but I will bring you forth <3318>(8689) out of the midst <8432> of it.
8. Ye have feared <3372>(8804) the sword <2719>; and I will bring <935>(8686) a sword <2719> upon you, saith <5002>(8803) the Lord <136> GOD <3069>.
9. And I will bring you out <3318>(8689) of the midst <8432> thereof, and deliver <5414>(8804) you into the hands <3027> of strangers <2114>(8801), and will execute <6213>(8804) judgments <8201> among you.
10. Ye shall fall <5307>(8799) by the sword <2719>; I will judge <8199>(8799) you in the border <1366> of Israel <3478>; and ye shall know <3045>(8804) that I am the LORD <3068>.
11. This city shall not be your caldron <5518>, neither shall ye be the flesh <1320> in the midst <8432> thereof; but I will judge <8199>(8799) you in the border <1366> of Israel <3478>:
12. And ye shall know <3045>(8804) that I am the LORD <3068>: for ye have not walked <1980>(8804) in my statutes <2706>, neither executed <6213>(8804) my judgments <4941>, but have done <6213>(8804) after the manners <4941> of the heathen <1471> that are round about <5439> you.
13. And it came to pass, when I prophesied <5012>(8736), that Pelatiah <6410> the son <1121> of Benaiah <1141> died <4191>(8804). Then fell I down <5307>(8799) upon my face <6440>, and cried <2199>(8799) with a loud <1419> voice <6963>, and said <559>(8799), Ah <162> Lord <136> GOD <3069>! wilt thou make <6213>(8802) a full end <3617> of the remnant <7611> of Israel <3478>?
14. Again the word <1697> of the LORD <3068> came unto me, saying <559>(8800),
15. Son <1121> of man <120>, thy brethren <251>, even thy brethren <251>, the men <582> of thy kindred <1353>, and all the house <1004> of Israel <3478> wholly, are they unto whom the inhabitants <3427>(8802) of Jerusalem <3389> have said <559>(8804), Get you far <7368>(8798) from the LORD <3068>: unto us is this land <776> given <5414>(8738) in possession <4181>.
16. Therefore say <559>(8798), Thus saith <559>(8804) the Lord <136> GOD <3069>; Although I have cast them far off <7368>(8689) among the heathen <1471>, and although I have scattered <6327>(8689) them among the countries <776>, yet will I be to them as a little <4592> sanctuary <4720> in the countries <776> where they shall come <935>(8804).
17. Therefore say <559>(8798), Thus saith <559>(8804) the Lord <136> GOD <3069>; I will even gather <6908>(8765) you from the people <5971>, and assemble <622>(8804) you out of the countries <776> where ye have been scattered <6327>(8738), and I will give <5414>(8804) you the land <127> of Israel <3478>.
18. And they shall come <935>(8804) thither, and they shall take away <5493>(8689) all the detestable things <8251> thereof and all the abominations <8441> thereof from thence.
19. And I will give <5414>(8804) them one <259> heart <3820>, and I will put <5414>(8799) a new <2319> spirit <7307> within <7130> you; and I will take <5493>(8689) the stony <68> heart <3820> out of their flesh <1320>, and will give <5414>(8804) them an heart <3820> of flesh <1320>:
20. That they may walk <3212>(8799) in my statutes <2708>, and keep <8104>(8799) mine ordinances <4941>, and do <6213>(8804) them: and they shall be my people <5971>, and I will be their God <430>.
21. But as for them whose heart <3820> walketh <1980>(8802) after the heart <3820> of their detestable things <8251> and their abominations <8441>, I will recompense <5414>(8804) their way <1870> upon their own heads <7218>, saith <5002>(8803) the Lord <136> GOD <3069>.
22. Then did the cherubims <3742> lift up <5375>(8799) their wings <3671>, and the wheels <212> beside <5980> them; and the glory <3519> of the God <430> of Israel <3478> was over them above <4605>.
23. And the glory <3519> of the LORD <3068> went up <5927>(8799) from the midst <8432> of the city <5892>, and stood <5975>(8799) upon the mountain <2022> which is on the east side <6924> of the city <5892>.
24. Afterwards the spirit <7307> took me up <5375>(8804), and brought <935>(8686) me in a vision <4758> by the Spirit <7307> of God <430> into Chaldea <3778>, to them of the captivity <1473>. So the vision <4758> that I had seen <7200>(8804) went up <5927>(8799) from me.
25. Then I spake <1696>(8762) unto them of the captivity <1473> all the things <1697> that the LORD <3068> had shewed <7200>(8689) me.

GRACE AT WORK
James talks about the man in good clothes and the man in shabby clothes coming into our meetings. Naturally our attention is grabbed by the man in good clothes, and we give him preference over the man in shabby clothes. James' lesson to us is that this is the wrong attitude to have and instead we should treat everyone equally. (James 2:1-7) The story of the sinful woman at the Pharisee's house is another good example of this kind of judgement.
Pharisees had the reputation of being holy and righteous. They dressed in the right clothes, they said prayers at the right times, they fasted, were not found in sinful places and made sure they kept God's law with as much attention to detail as possible. Overall, the impression they give us is that of being people near to God. The sinful woman was just about the opposite. She was known as a "sinner" who did not live for God, did not pray, openly did the wrong things in sinful places and was full of guilt.
But of these two people, it was the sinful woman who was repentant. The Pharisee thought he had nothing to repent of. The sinful woman was forgiven from all the sins of her past way of life, but the Pharisee left having added to his sins. We cannot tell who God has forgiven or who is right with him, in fact we may be very mistaken if we try to judge. So let's remember that the grace of God could be at work in anyone we meet.

The elders thought the centurion was worthy, and that for Jesus to be entreated to heal his servant, this worthiness had to be proclaimed.
The centurion thought he was un-worthy, and that he needed to proclaim his unworthiness to obtain favour with Jesus.
Who was right?

1. Now <1161> when <1893> he had ended <4137>(5656) all <3956> his <848> sayings <4487> in <1519> the audience <189> of the people <2992>, he entered <1525>(5627) into <1519> Capernaum <2584>.

3. And <1161> when he heard <191>(5660) of <4012> Jesus <2424>, he sent <649>(5656) unto <4314> him <846> the elders <4245> of the Jews <2453>, beseeching <2065>(5723) him <846> that <3704> he would come <2064>(5631) and heal <1295>(5661) his <848> servant <1401>.
4. And <1161> when they came <3854>(5637) to <4314> Jesus <2424>, they besought <3870>(5707) him <846> instantly <4709>, saying <3004>(5723), That <3754> he was <2076>(5748) worthy <514> for whom <3739> he should do <3930>(5692) this <5124>:
5. For <1063> he loveth <25>(5719) our <2257> nation <1484>, and <2532> he <846> hath built <3618>(5656) us <2254> a synagogue <4864>.

When <1161> Jesus <2424> heard <191>(5660) these things <5023>, he marvelled <2296>(5656) at him <846>, and <2532> turned him about <4762>(5651), and said <2036>(5627) unto the people <3793> that followed <190>(5723) him <846>, I say <3004>(5719) unto you <5213>, I have not found <2147>(5627) so great <5118> faith <4102>, no, not <3761> in <1722> Israel <2474>.
10. And <2532> they that were sent <3992>(5685), returning <5290>(5660) to <1519> the house <3624>, found <2147>(5627) the servant <1401> whole <5198>(5723) that had been sick <770>(5723).
11. And <2532> it came to pass <1096>(5633) <1722> the day after <1836>, that he went <4198>(5711) into <1519> a city <4172> called <2564>(5746) Nain <3484>; and <2532> many <2425> of his <846> disciples <3101> went with <4848>(5711) him <846>, and <2532> much <4183> people <3793>.
12. Now <1161> when <5613> he came nigh <1448>(5656) to the gate <4439> of the city <4172>, behold <2532> <2400>(5628), there was <1580> <0> a dead man <2348>(5761) carried out <1580>(5712), the only <3439> son <5207> of his <848> mother <3384>, and <2532> she <3778> was <2258>(5713) a widow <5503>: and <2532> much <2425> people <3793> of the city <4172> was <2258>(5713) with <4862> her <846>.
13. And <2532> when the Lord <2962> saw <1492>(5631) her <846>, he had compassion <4697>(5675) on <1909> her <846>, and <2532> said <2036>(5627) unto her <846>, Weep <2799>(5720) not <3361>.
14. And <2532> he came <4334>(5631) and touched <680>(5662) the bier <4673>: and <1161> they that bare <941>(5723) him stood still <2476>(5627). And <2532> he said <2036>(5627), Young man <3495>, I say <3004>(5719) unto thee <4671>, Arise <1453>(5682).
15. And <2532> he that was dead <3498> sat up <339>(5656), and <2532> began <756>(5662) to speak <2980>(5721). And <2532> he delivered <1325>(5656) him <846> to his <846> mother <3384>.
16. And <1161> there came <2983>(5627) a fear <5401> on all <537>: and <2532> they glorified <1392>(5707) God <2316>, saying <3004>(5723), That <3754> a great <3173> prophet <4396> is risen up <1453>(5769) among <1722> us <2254>; and <2532>, That <3754> God <2316> hath visited <1980>(5662) his <848> people <2992>.
17. And <2532> this <3778> rumour <3056> of <4012> him <846> went forth <1831>(5627) throughout <1722> all <3650> Judaea <2449>, and <2532> throughout <1722> all <3956> the region round about <4066>.
18. And <2532> the disciples <3101> of John <2491> shewed <518>(5656) him <846> of <4012> all <3956> these things <5130>.
19. And <2532> John <2491> calling <4341>(5666) unto him two <1417> <5100> of his <848> disciples <3101> sent <3992>(5656) them to <4314> Jesus <2424>, saying <3004>(5723), Art <1488>(5748) thou <4771> he that should come <2064>(5740)? or <2228> look we for <4328>(5719)(5725) another <243>?
20. When <1161> the men <435> were come <3854>(5637) unto <4314> him <846>, they said <2036>(5627), John <2491> Baptist <910> hath sent <649>(5758) us <2248> unto <4314> thee <4571>, saying <3004>(5723), Art <1488>(5748) thou <4771> he that should come <2064>(5740)? or <2228> look we for <4328>(5719)(5725) another <243>?
21. And <1161> in <1722> that same <846> hour <5610> he cured <2323>(5656) many <4183> of <575> their infirmities <3554> and <2532> plagues <3148>, and <2532> of evil <4190> spirits <4151>; and <2532> unto many <4183> that were blind <5185> he gave <5483>(5662) sight <991>(5721).
22. Then <2532> Jesus <2424> answering <611>(5679) said <2036>(5627) unto them <846>, Go your way <4198>(5679), and tell <518>(5657) John <2491> what things <3739> ye have seen <1492>(5627) and <2532> heard <191>(5656); how <3754> that the blind <5185> see <308>(5719), the lame <5560> walk <4043>(5719), the lepers <3015> are cleansed <2511>(5743), the deaf <2974> hear <191>(5719), the dead <3498> are raised <1453>(5743), to the poor <4434> the gospel is preached <2097>(5743).
23. And <2532> blessed <3107> is <2076>(5748) he, whosoever <3362> <0> shall <4624> <0> not <3362> be offended <4624>(5686) in <1722> me <1698>.
24. And <1161> when the messengers <32> of John <2491> were departed <565>(5631), he began <756>(5662) to speak <3004>(5721) unto <4314> the people <3793> concerning <4012> John <2491>, What <5101> went ye out <1831>(5758) into <1519> the wilderness <2048> for to see <2300>(5664)? A reed <2563> shaken <4531>(5746) with <5259> the wind <417>?
25. But <235> what <5101> went ye out <1831>(5758) for to see <1492>(5629)? A man <444> clothed <294>(5772) in <1722> soft <3120> raiment <2440>? Behold <2400>(5628), they which are <1722> gorgeously <1741> apparelled <2441>, and <2532> live <5225>(5723) delicately <5172>, are <1526>(5748) in <1722> kings' courts <933>.
26. But <235> what <5101> went ye out <1831>(5758) for to see <1492>(5629)? A prophet <4396>? Yea <3483>, I say <3004>(5719) unto you <5213>, and <2532> much more <4055> than a prophet <4396>.
27. This <3778> is <2076>(5748) he, of <4012> whom <3739> it is written <1125>(5769), Behold <2400>(5628), I <1473> send <649>(5719) my <3450> messenger <32> before <4253> thy <4675> face <4383>, which <3739> shall prepare <2680>(5692) thy <4675> way <3598> before <1715> thee <4675>.
28. For <1063> I say <3004>(5719) unto you <5213>, Among <1722> those that are born <1084> of women <1135> there is <2076>(5748) not <3762> a greater <3187> <0> prophet <4396> than <3187> John <2491> the Baptist <910>: but <1161> he that is least <3398> in <1722> the kingdom <932> of God <2316> is <2076>(5748) greater than <3187> he <846>.
29. And <2532> all <3956> the people <2992> that heard <191>(5660) him, and <2532> the publicans <5057>, justified <1344>(5656) God <2316>, being baptized <907>(5685) with the baptism <908> of John <2491>.
30. But <1161> the Pharisees <5330> and <2532> lawyers <3544> rejected <114>(5656) the counsel <1012> of God <2316> against <1519> themselves <1438>, being <907> <0> not <3361> baptized <907>(5685) of <5259> him <846>.
31. And <1161> the Lord <2962> said <2036>(5627), Whereunto <5101> then <3767> shall I liken <3666>(5692) the men <444> of this <5026> generation <1074>? and <2532> to what <5101> are they <1526>(5748) like <3664>?
32. They are <1526>(5748) like <3664> unto children <3813> sitting <2521>(5740) in <1722> the marketplace <58>, and <2532> calling <4377>(5719)(5723) one to another <240>, and <2532> saying <3004>(5719)(5723), We have piped <832>(5656) unto you <5213>, and <2532> ye have <3738> <0> not <3756> danced <3738>(5662); we have mourned <2354>(5656) to you <5213>, and <2532> ye have <2799> <0> not <3756> wept <2799>(5656).
33. For <1063> John <2491> the Baptist <910> came <2064>(5754) neither <3383> eating <2068>(5723) bread <740> nor <3383> drinking <4095>(5723) wine <3631>; and <2532> ye say <3004>(5719), He hath <2192>(5719) a devil <1140>.
34. The Son <5207> of man <444> is come <2064>(5754) eating <2068>(5723) and <2532> drinking <4095>(5723); and <2532> ye say <3004>(5719), Behold <2400>(5628) a gluttonous <5314> man <444>, and <2532> a winebibber <3630>, a friend <5384> of publicans <5057> and <2532> sinners <268>!
35. But <2532> wisdom <4678> is justified <1344>(5681) of <575> all <3956> her <848> children <5043>.
36. And <1161> one <5100> of the Pharisees <5330> desired <2065>(5707) him <846> that <2443> he would eat <5315>(5632) with <3326> him <846>. And <2532> he went <1525>(5631) into <1519> the Pharisee's <5330> house <3614>, and sat down to meat <347>(5681).
37. And <2532>, behold <2400>(5628), a woman <1135> in <1722> the city <4172>, which <3748> was <2258>(5713) a sinner <268>, when she knew <1921>(5631) that <3754> Jesus sat at meat <345>(5736) in <1722> the Pharisee's <5330> house <3614>, brought <2865>(5660) an alabaster box <211> of ointment <3464>,
38. And <2532> stood <2476>(5631) at <3844> his <846> feet <4228> behind <3694> him weeping <2799>(5723), and began <756>(5662) to wash <1026>(5721) his <846> feet <4228> with tears <1144>, and <2532> did wipe <1591>(5707) them with the hairs <2359> of her <848> head <2776>, and <2532> kissed <2705>(5707) his <846> feet <4228>, and <2532> anointed <218>(5707) them with the ointment <3464>.
39. Now <1161> when the Pharisee <5330> which <3588> had bidden <2564>(5660) him <846> saw <1492>(5631) it, he spake <2036>(5627) within <1722> himself <1438>, saying <3004>(5723), This man <3778>, if <1487> he were <2258>(5713) a prophet <4396>, <302> would have known <1097>(5707) who <5101> and <2532> what manner <4217> of woman <1135> this is that <3748> toucheth <680>(5731) him <846>: for <3754> she is <2076>(5748) a sinner <268>.
40. And <2532> Jesus <2424> answering <611>(5679) said <2036>(5627) unto <4314> him <846>, Simon <4613>, I have <2192>(5719) somewhat <5100> to say <2036>(5629) unto thee <4671>. And <1161> he saith <5346>(5748), Master <1320>, say on <2036>(5628).
41. There was <2258>(5713) a certain <5100> creditor <1157> which had two <1417> debtors <5533>: the one <1520> owed <3784>(5707) five hundred <4001> pence <1220>, and <1161> the other <2087> fifty <4004>.
42. And <1161> when they <846> had <2192>(5723) nothing <3361> to pay <591>(5629), he frankly forgave <5483>(5662) them both <297>. Tell me <2036>(5628) therefore <3767>, which <5101> of them <846> will love <25>(5692) him <846> most <4119>?
43. Simon <4613> answered <611>(5679) and <1161> said <2036>(5627), I suppose <5274>(5719) that <3754> he, to whom <3739> he forgave <5483>(5662) most <4119>. And <1161> he said <2036>(5627) unto him <846>, Thou hast <2919> <0> rightly <3723> judged <2919>(5656).
44. And <2532> he turned <4762>(5651) to <4314> the woman <1135>, and said <5346>(5713) unto Simon <4613>, Seest thou <991>(5719) this <5026> woman <1135>? I entered <1525>(5627) into <1519> thine <4675> house <3614>, thou gavest me <1325>(5656) no <3756> water <5204> for <1909> my <3450> feet <4228>: but <1161> she <3778> hath washed <1026>(5656) my <3450> feet <4228> with tears <1144>, and <2532> wiped <1591>(5656) them with the hairs <2359> of her <848> head <2776>.
45. Thou gavest <1325>(5656) me <3427> no <3756> kiss <5370>: but <1161> this woman <3778> since <575> the time <3739> I came in <1525>(5627) hath <1257> <0> not <3756> ceased <1257>(5627) to kiss <2705>(5723) my <3450> feet <4228>.
46. My <3450> head <2776> with oil <1637> thou didst <218> <0> not <3756> anoint <218>(5656): but <1161> this woman <3778> hath anointed <218>(5656) my <3450> feet <4228> with ointment <3464>.
47. Wherefore <3739> <5484> I say <3004>(5719) unto thee <4671>, Her <846> sins <266>, which <3588> are many <4183>, are forgiven <863>(5769); for <3754> she loved <25>(5656) much <4183>: but <1161> to whom <3739> little <3641> is forgiven <863>(5743), the same loveth <25>(5719) little <3641>.
48. And <1161> he said <2036>(5627) unto her <846>, Thy <4675> sins <266> are forgiven <863>(5769).
49. And <2532> they that sat at meat with him <4873>(5740) began <756>(5662) to say <3004>(5721) within <1722> themselves <1438>, Who <5101> is <2076>(5748) this <3778> that <3739> forgiveth <863>(5719) sins <266> also <2532>?
50. And <1161> he said <2036>(5627) to <4314> the woman <1135>, Thy <4675> faith <4102> hath saved <4982>(5758) thee <4571>; go <4198>(5737) in <1519> peace <1515>.
