ENCOURAGEMENT
There are times in our lives when we feel that the challenges we are faced with are too great for us. Maybe the obstacles we meet seem too big to overcome or we feel just too weak or unprepared to deal with what we are expected to do. The tribes of Ephraim and Manasseh felt like that. They complained to Joshua that their portion of land was too small, so Joshua told them to clear the forested hill country where the Perrizites and Rephaites lived. And then, like we so often do, Ephraim and Manasseh said, "But!" There were problems that they felt were too big and the tribes felt too weak.
So Joshua encouraged them. He said to them, "You are numerous and very powerful. You will not have only one allotment but the forested hill country as well. Clear it and its farthest limits will be yours; though the Canaanites have iron chariots and though they are strong, you can drive them out."
I would like to think that Ephraim and Manasseh were strengthened by this encouragement and went out and conquered the land, but we are not told what they did. However, we all need this sort of encouragement sometimes and there is always someone near us who needs it from us. So let's take Joshua's example and encourage each other so that we will all have the faith and strength to face the challenges before us.

1. There was also a lot <1486> for the tribe <4294> of Manasseh <4519>; for he was the firstborn <1060> of Joseph <3130>; to wit, for Machir <4353> the firstborn <1060> of Manasseh <4519>, the father <1> of Gilead <1568>: because he was a man <376> of war <4421>, therefore he had Gilead <1568> and Bashan <1316>.
2. There was also a lot for the rest <3498>(8737) of the children <1121> of Manasseh <4519> by their families <4940>; for the children <1121> of Abiezer <44>, and for the children <1121> of Helek <2507>, and for the children <1121> of Asriel <844>, and for the children <1121> of Shechem <7928>, and for the children <1121> of Hepher <2660>, and for the children <1121> of Shemida <8061>: these were the male <2145> children <1121> of Manasseh <4519> the son <1121> of Joseph <3130> by their families <4940>.
3. But Zelophehad <6765>, the son <1121> of Hepher <2660>, the son <1121> of Gilead <1568>, the son <1121> of Machir <4353>, the son <1121> of Manasseh <4519>, had no sons <1121>, but daughters <1323>: and these are the names <8034> of his daughters <1323>, Mahlah <4244>, and Noah <5270>, Hoglah <2295>, Milcah <4435>, and Tirzah <8656>.
4. And they came near <7126>(8799) before <6440> Eleazar <499> the priest <3548>, and before <6440> Joshua <3091> the son <1121> of Nun <5126>, and before <6440> the princes <5387>, saying <559>(8800), The LORD <3068> commanded <6680>(8765) Moses <4872> to give <5414>(8800) us an inheritance <5159> among <8432> our brethren <251>. Therefore according to the commandment <6310> of the LORD <3068> he gave <5414>(8799) them an inheritance <5159> among <8432> the brethren <251> of their father <1>.
5. And there fell <5307>(8799) ten <6235> portions <2256> to Manasseh <4519>, beside the land <776> of Gilead <1568> and Bashan <1316>, which were on the other side <5676> Jordan <3383>;
6. Because the daughters <1323> of Manasseh <4519> had <5157>(8804) an inheritance <5159> among <8432> his sons <1121>: and the rest <3498>(8737) of Manasseh's <4519> sons <1121> had the land <776> of Gilead <1568>.
7. And the coast <1366> of Manasseh <4519> was from Asher <836> to Michmethah <4366>, that lieth before <6440> Shechem <7927>; and the border <1366> went along <1980>(8804) on the right hand <3225> unto the inhabitants <3427>(8802) of Entappuah <5887>.
8. Now Manasseh <4519> had the land <776> of Tappuah <8599>: but Tappuah <8599> on the border <1366> of Manasseh <4519> belonged to the children <1121> of Ephraim <669>;
9. And the coast <1366> descended <3381>(8804) unto the river <5158> Kanah <7071>, southward <5045> of the river <5158>: these cities <5892> of Ephraim <669> are among <8432> the cities <5892> of Manasseh <4519>: the coast <1366> of Manasseh <4519> also was on the north side <6828> of the river <5158>, and the outgoings <8444> of it were at the sea <3220>:
10. Southward <5045> it was Ephraim's <669>, and northward <6828> it was Manasseh's <4519>, and the sea <3220> is his border <1366>; and they met together <6293>(8799) in Asher <836> on the north <6828>, and in Issachar <3485> on the east <4217>.
11. And Manasseh <4519> had in Issachar <3485> and in Asher <836> Bethshean <1052> and her towns <1323>, and Ibleam <2991> and her towns <1323>, and the inhabitants <3427>(8802) of Dor <1756> and her towns <1323>, and the inhabitants <3427>(8802) of Endor <5874> and her towns <1323>, and the inhabitants <3427>(8802) of Taanach <8590> and her towns <1323>, and the inhabitants <3427>(8802) of Megiddo <4023> and her towns <1323>, even three <7969> countries <5316>.
12. Yet the children <1121> of Manasseh <4519> could <3201>(8804) not drive out <3423>(8687) the inhabitants of those cities <5892>; but the Canaanites <3669> would <2974>(8686) dwell <3427>(8800) in that land <776>.
13. Yet it came to pass, when the children <1121> of Israel <3478> were waxen strong <2388>(8804), that they put <5414>(8799) the Canaanites <3669> to tribute <4522>; but did not utterly <3423>(8687) drive them out <3423>(8689).
14. And the children <1121> of Joseph <3130> spake <1696>(8762) unto Joshua <3091>, saying <559>(8800), Why hast thou given <5414>(8804) me but one <259> lot <1486> and one <259> portion <2256> to inherit <5159>, seeing I am a great <7227> people <5971>, forasmuch as <5704> the LORD <3068> hath blessed <1288>(8765) me hitherto <3541>?
15. And Joshua <3091> answered <559>(8799) them, If thou be a great <7227> people <5971>, then get thee up <5927>(8798) to the wood <3293> country, and cut down <1254>(8765) for thyself there in the land <776> of the Perizzites <6522> and of the giants <7497>, if mount <2022> Ephraim <669> be too narrow <213>(8804) for thee.
16. And the children <1121> of Joseph <3130> said <559>(8799), The hill <2022> is not enough <4672>(8735) for us: and all the Canaanites <3669> that dwell <3427>(8802) in the land <776> of the valley <6010> have chariots <7393> of iron <1270>, both they who are of Bethshean <1052> and her towns <1323>, and they who are of the valley <6010> of Jezreel <3157>.
17. And Joshua <3091> spake <559>(8799) unto the house <1004> of Joseph <3130>, even to Ephraim <669> and to Manasseh <4519>, saying <559>(8800), Thou art a great <7227> people <5971>, and hast great <1419> power <3581>: thou shalt not have one <259> lot <1486> only:
18. But the mountain <2022> shall be thine; for it is a wood <3293>, and thou shalt cut it down <1254>(8765): and the outgoings <8444> of it shall be thine: for thou shalt drive out <3423>(8686) the Canaanites <3669>, though they have iron <1270> chariots <7393>, and though they be strong <2389>.

'Chittim' is 'Kittim' and is on the island of Cyprus denoting a trading link between the island of Cyprus and Tyre.

WHEN EVERYTHING FALLS APART...
Nothing is as certain as what we think it might be. A sudden earthquake, health scare, terrorist attack, storm, or even power failure can happen at any moment and could completely change the world as we know it. Imagine the chaos if a solar flare or a hacker managed to permanently bring down the internet, when most of us rely on it to some degree or another - and if not us, then the people that supply our food, water and power do.
Just as Tyre was a major trade center in Isaiah's days, and the cities around Tyre were relying on her, we can't afford to get too attached to the things that we rely on in this world. Tyre was about to be brought down to nothing, and nobody was going to know what to do with themselves.
That's one good reason we need to build our lives on God. God does not change. He's not going to go away. He is a solid rock we can build on. Anything else can be taken from us in a moment like it is built on a spider web.
Let's put our faith in God, so that when everything else falls apart, our lives, our hope, our faith and our love remain intact.

23 Tyre, a city, had become prosperous as a conduit through which trade moved. Tyre made nothing and relied heavily on the fact that other nations needed to trade. So in that sense Tyre was very vulnerable. The collapse of trade due to other countries being overthrown impacted on Tyre before she was attacked herself. It all seemed so natural. However God’s hand was at work. It is all too easy to see events in the world as easily explained by geopolitics and forget that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men – Dan 4:17 – even today.

1. The burden <4853> of Tyre <6865>. Howl <3213>(8685), ye ships <591> of Tarshish <8659>; for it is laid waste <7703>(8795), so that there is no house <1004>, no entering in <935>(8800): from the land <776> of Chittim <3794> it is revealed <1540>(8738) to them.
2. Be still <1826>(8798), ye inhabitants <3427>(8802) of the isle <339>; thou whom the merchants <5503>(8802) of Zidon <6721>, that pass over <5674>(8802) the sea <3220>, have replenished <4390>(8765).
3. And by great <7227> waters <4325> the seed <2233> of Sihor <7883>, the harvest <7105> of the river <2975>, is her revenue <8393>; and she is a mart <5505> of nations <1471>.
4. Be thou ashamed <954>(8798), O Zidon <6721>: for the sea <3220> hath spoken <559>(8804), even the strength <4581> of the sea <3220>, saying <559>(8800), I travail <2342>(8804) not, nor bring forth children <3205>(8804), neither do I nourish up <1431>(8765) young men <970>, nor bring up <7311>(8790) virgins <1330>.
5. As at the report <8088> concerning Egypt <4714>, so shall they be sorely pained <2342>(8799) at the report <8088> of Tyre <6865>.
6. Pass ye over <5674>(8798) to Tarshish <8659>; howl <3213>(8685), ye inhabitants <3427>(8802) of the isle <339>.
7. Is this your joyous <5947> city, whose antiquity <6927> is of ancient <6924> days <3117>? her own feet <7272> shall carry <2986>(8686) her afar off <7350> to sojourn <1481>(8800).
8. Who hath taken this counsel <3289>(8804) against Tyre <6865>, the crowning <5849>(8688) city, whose merchants <5503>(8802) are princes <8269>, whose traffickers <3667> are the honourable <3513>(8737) of the earth <776>?
9. The LORD <3068> of hosts <6635> hath purposed <3289>(8804) it, to stain <2490>(8763) the pride <1347> of all glory <6643>, and to bring into contempt <7043>(8687) all the honourable <3513>(8737) of the earth <776>.
10. Pass <5674>(8798) through thy land <776> as a river <2975>, O daughter <1323> of Tarshish <8659>: there is no more strength <4206>.
11. He stretched out <5186>(8804) his hand <3027> over the sea <3220>, he shook <7264>(8689) the kingdoms <4467>: the LORD <3068> hath given a commandment <6680>(8765) against the merchant <3667> city, to destroy <8045>(8687) the strong <4581> holds <4581> thereof.
12. And he said <559>(8799), Thou shalt no more <3254>(8686) rejoice <5937>(8800), O thou oppressed <6231>(8794) virgin <1330>, daughter <1323> of Zidon <6721>: arise <6965>(8798), pass over <5674>(8798) to Chittim <3794>; there also shalt thou have no rest <5117>(8799).
13. Behold the land <776> of the Chaldeans <3778>; this people <5971> was not, till the Assyrian <804> founded <3245>(8804) it for them that dwell in the wilderness <6728>: they set up <6965>(8689) the towers <971> thereof, they raised up <6209>(8782) the palaces <759> thereof; and he brought <7760>(8804) it to ruin <4654>.
14. Howl <3213>(8685), ye ships <591> of Tarshish <8659>: for your strength <4581> is laid waste <7703>(8795).
15. And it shall come to pass in that day <3117>, that Tyre <6865> shall be forgotten <7911>(8737) seventy <7657> years <8141>, according to the days <3117> of one <259> king <4428>: after the end <7093> of seventy <7657> years <8141> shall Tyre <6865> sing <7892> as an harlot <2181>(8802).
16. Take <3947>(8798) an harp <3658>, go about <5437>(8798) the city <5892>, thou harlot <2181>(8802) that hast been forgotten <7911>(8737); make sweet <3190>(8685) melody <5059>(8763), sing many <7235>(8685) songs <7892>, that thou mayest be remembered <2142>(8735).
17. And it shall come to pass after the end <7093> of seventy <7657> years <8141>, that the LORD <3068> will visit <6485>(8799) Tyre <6865>, and she shall turn <7725>(8804) to her hire <868>, and shall commit fornication <2181>(8804) with all the kingdoms <4467> of the world <776> upon the face <6440> of the earth <127>.
18. And her merchandise <5504> and her hire <868> shall be holiness <6944> to the LORD <3068>: it shall not be treasured <686>(8735) nor laid up <2630>(8735); for her merchandise <5504> shall be for them that dwell <3427>(8802) before <6440> the LORD <3068>, to eat <398>(8800) sufficiently <7654>, and for durable <6266> clothing <4374>.

4:2 As we have had the Word of God preached to us, likewise with the Israelites the Word was spoken to them. The Word that they heard did them no good, because they failed to pay attention to what was being said. The same message is being spoken to us through the Word that has been preserved for us. Are we listening, or maybe just hearing?

Heb. 3:16-19 While the chapter talks of Moses being faithful, this section refers to Moses as much to the rest of Israel. Moses provoked God by not honouring him at the wares of Meribah, so that God swore he would not enter the promised land.
Alex Browning [Kitchener-Waterloo] Comment added in 2013 Reply to Alex
Today's readings.. (Joshua 17), (Isaiah 23), (Hebrews 3,4,5)
The 3 short chapters (3,4 & 5) we read today in Hebrews provide us with an abundance of thoughts. Paul is reflecting back on the lessons of earlier days, such as we have been reading in Joshua when the people were “entering his (God's) rest” [4 v.1] as they settled in the promised land. We read. “for good news came to us just as to them, but the message they heard did not benefit them, because they were not united by faith ...” [v.2]
A key lesson that is not very obvious in the book of Joshua, is the failure of many of them to properly settle in the land. The generations, after the death of Joshua, as we will read in the book of Judges in coming weeks, “were not united in faith,” except briefly, when a good leader arose. This is the lesson of all history - but the leaders are rarely ones, of whom it can be said, “they walked with God” - as was said of Enoch and Noah. (Gen 5 v.22; 6 v.9] Gods' response to Solomon's prayer about his sons, spells out the Divine attitude of giving blessings, “...if only your sons pay close attention to their way, to walk before me as you have walked ....” [1 Kings 8 v. 25]
Returning to Hebrews we read, “For if Joshua had given them rest, God would not have spoken of another day later on. So then, there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God (the kingdom) ... Let us therefore strive to enter that rest, so that no one may fall by the same sort of disobedience.” [4 v.8,9,11]
We need to highlight (in our minds) the words which immediately follow, “For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart”
We must read God's word prayerfully so this happens with us, sensing how true it is that, as David expressed it in Psalm 139, “O LORD, you have searched me and known me! ... you discern my thoughts from afar. You ... are acquainted with all my ways.” [v.1-3] Moses surely was strengthened by knowing this as he led the people through the wilderness, and now Joshua senses the same. May we be “united by faith” in sensing the same as we complete our journey to the kingdom through today's wilderness..

1. Wherefore <3606>, holy <40> brethren <80>, partakers <3353> of the heavenly <2032> calling <2821>, consider <2657>(5657) the Apostle <652> and <2532> High Priest <749> of our <2257> profession <3671>, Christ <5547> Jesus <2424>;
2. Who was <5607>(5752) faithful <4103> to him that appointed <4160>(5660) him <846>, as <5613> also <2532> Moses <3475> was faithful in <1722> all <3650> his <846> house <3624>.
3. For <1063> this <3778> man was counted worthy <515>(5769) of more <4119> glory <1391> than <3844> Moses <3475>, inasmuch as <2596> <3745> he who hath builded <2680>(5660) the house <3624> hath more <4119> honour <5092> than <2192>(5719) the house <846>.
4. For <1063> every <3956> house <3624> is builded <2680>(5743) by <5259> some <5100> man; but <1161> he that built <2680>(5660) all things <3956> is God <2316>.
5. And <2532> Moses <3475> verily <3303> was faithful <4103> in <1722> all <3650> his <846> house <3624>, as <5613> a servant <2324>, for <1519> a testimony <3142> of those things which were to be spoken after <2980>(5702);
6. But <1161> Christ <5547> as <5613> a son <5207> over <1909> his own <848> house <3624>; whose <3739> house <3624> are <2070>(5748) we <2249>, if <1437> <4007> we hold fast <2722>(5632) the confidence <3954> and <2532> the rejoicing <2745> of the hope <1680> firm <949> unto <3360> the end <5056>.
7. Wherefore <1352> (as <2531> the Holy <40> Ghost <4151> saith <3004>(5719), To day <4594> if <1437> ye will hear <191>(5661) his <846> voice <5456>,

9. When <3757> your <5216> fathers <3962> tempted <3985>(5656) me <3165>, proved <1381>(5656) me <3165>, and <2532> saw <1492>(5627) my <3450> works <2041> forty <5062> years <2094>.
10. Wherefore <1352> I was grieved <4360>(5656) with that <1565> generation <1074>, and <2532> said <2036>(5627), They do <4105> <0> alway <104> err <4105>(5746) in their heart <2588>; and <1161> they <846> have <1097> <0> not <3756> known <1097>(5627) my <3450> ways <3598>.
11. So <5613> I sware <3660>(5656) in <1722> my <3450> wrath <3709>, They shall <1525> <0> not <1487> enter <1525>(5695) into <1519> my <3450> rest <2663>.)
12. Take heed <991>(5720), brethren <80>, lest <3379> there be <2071>(5704) in <1722> any <5100> of you <5216> an evil <4190> heart <2588> of unbelief <570>, in <1722> departing <868>(5629) from <575> the living <2198>(5723) God <2316>.
13. But <235> exhort <3870>(5720) one another <1438> daily <2596> <1538> <2250>, while <891> it is called <2564>(5743) To day <4594>; lest <3363> any <5100> of <1537> you <5216> be hardened <4645>(5686) through the deceitfulness <539> of sin <266>.
14. For <1063> we are made <1096>(5754) partakers <3353> of Christ <5547>, if <1437> <4007> we hold <2722>(5632) the beginning <746> of our confidence <5287> stedfast <949> unto <3360> the end <5056>;
15. While <1722> it is said <3004>(5745), To day <4594> if <1437> ye will hear <191>(5661) his <846> voice <5456>, harden <4645>(5725) not <3361> your <5216> hearts <2588>, as <5613> in <1722> the provocation <3894>.
16. For <1063> some <5100>, when they had heard <191>(5660), did provoke <3893>(5656): howbeit <235> not <3756> all <3956> that came <1831>(5631) out of <1537> Egypt <125> by <1223> Moses <3475>.
17. But <1161> with whom <5101> was he grieved <4360>(5656) forty <5062> years <2094>? was it not <3780> with them that had sinned <264>(5660), whose <3739> carcases <2966> fell <4098>(5627) in <1722> the wilderness <2048>?
18. And <1161> to whom <5101> sware he <3660>(5656) that they should <1525> <0> not <3361> enter <1525>(5696) into <1519> his <848> rest <2663>, but <1508> to them that believed not <544>(5660)?
19. So <2532> we see <991>(5719) that <3754> they could <1410>(5675) not <3756> enter in <1525>(5629) because <1223> of unbelief <570>.
1. Let us <5399> <0> therefore <3767> fear <5399>(5680), lest <3379> <4218>, a promise <1860> being left <2641>(5746) us of entering <1525>(5629) into <1519> his <846> rest <2663>, any <5100> of <1537> you <5216> should seem <1380>(5725) to come short of it <5302>(5760).
2. For <2532> <1063> unto us was <2070>(5748) the gospel preached <2097>(5772), as well as <2509> unto them <2548>: but <235> the word <3056> preached <189> did <5623> <0> not <3756> profit <5623>(5656) them <1565>, not <3361> being mixed <4786>(5772) with faith <4102> in them that heard <191>(5660) it.
3. For <1063> we which <3588> have believed <4100>(5660) do enter <1525>(5736) into <1519> rest <2663>, as <2531> he said <2046>(5758), As <5613> I have sworn <3660>(5656) in <1722> my <3450> wrath <3709>, if <1487> they shall enter <1525>(5695) into <1519> my <3450> rest <2663>: although <2543> the works <2041> were finished <1096>(5679) from <575> the foundation <2602> of the world <2889>.
4. For <1063> he spake <2046>(5758) in a certain place <4225> of <4012> the seventh <1442> day on this wise <3779>, And <2532> God <2316> did rest <2664>(5656) the seventh <1722> <1442> day <2250> from <575> all <3956> his <848> works <2041>.
5. And <2532> in <1722> this <5129> place again <3825>, If <1487> they shall enter <1525>(5695) into <1519> my <3450> rest <2663>.
6. Seeing <1893> therefore <3767> it remaineth <620>(5743) that some <5100> must enter <1525>(5629) therein <1519> <846>, and <2532> they to whom it was first <4386> preached <2097>(5685) entered <1525> <0> not <3756> in <1525>(5627) because <1223> of unbelief <543>:
7. Again <3825>, he limiteth <3724>(5719) a certain <5100> day <2250>, saying <3004>(5723) in <1722> David <1138>, To day <4594>, after <3326> so long <5118> a time <5550>; as <2531> it is said <2046>(5769), To day <4594> if <1437> ye will hear <191>(5661) his <846> voice <5456>, harden <4645>(5725) not <3361> your <5216> hearts <2588>.
8. For <1063> if <1487> Jesus <2424> had given <2664> <0> them <846> rest <2664>(5656), then would he <302> not <3756> afterward <3326> <5023> have spoken <2980>(5707) of <4012> another <243> day <2250>.
9. There remaineth <620>(5743) therefore <686> a rest <4520> to the people <2992> of God <2316>.
10. For <1063> he that is entered <1525>(5631) into <1519> his <846> rest <2663>, he <846> also <2532> hath ceased <2664>(5656) from <575> his own <848> works <2041>, as <5618> God <2316> did from <575> his <2398>.
11. Let us labour <4704>(5661) therefore <3767> to enter <1525>(5629) into <1519> that <1565> rest <2663>, lest <3363> any man <5100> fall <4098>(5632) after <1722> the same <846> example <5262> of unbelief <543>.
12. For <1063> the word <3056> of God <2316> is quick <2198>(5723), and <2532> powerful <1756>, and <2532> sharper <5114> than <5228> any <3956> twoedged <1366> sword <3162>, piercing <1338>(5740) even to <891> the dividing asunder <3311> of soul <5590> and <5037> <2532> spirit <4151>, and <5037> <2532> of the joints <719> and <2532> marrow <3452>, and <2532> is a discerner <2924> of the thoughts <1761> and <2532> intents <1771> of the heart <2588>.
13. Neither <2532> <3756> is there <2076>(5748) any creature <2937> that is not manifest <852> in his <846> sight <1799>: but <1161> all things <3956> are naked <1131> and <2532> opened <5136>(5772) unto the eyes <3788> of him <846> with <4314> whom <3739> we have <2254> to do <3056>.
14. Seeing <2192> <0> then <3767> that we have <2192>(5723) a great <3173> high priest <749>, that is passed into <1330>(5756) the heavens <3772>, Jesus <2424> the Son <5207> of God <2316>, let us hold fast <2902>(5725) our profession <3671>.
15. For <1063> we have <2192>(5719) not <3756> an high priest <749> which cannot <3361> <1410>(5740) be touched with the feeling <4834>(5658) of our <2257> infirmities <769>; but <1161> was <3985> <0> in <2596> all points <3956> tempted <3985>(5772)(5625) <3987>(5772) like <2596> as <3665> we are, yet without <5565> sin <266>.
16. Let us <4334> <0> therefore <3767> come <4334>(5741) boldly <3326> <3954> unto the throne <2362> of grace <5485>, that <2443> we may obtain <2983>(5632) mercy <1656>, and <2532> find <2147>(5632) grace <5485> to help <996> in <1519> time of need <2121>.
1. For <1063> every <3956> high priest <749> taken <2983>(5746) from among <1537> men <444> is ordained <2525>(5743) for <5228> men <444> in things pertaining to <4314> God <2316>, that <2443> he may offer <4374>(5725) both <5037> gifts <1435> and <2532> sacrifices <2378> for <5228> sins <266>:
2. Who can <1410>(5740) have compassion <3356>(5721) on the ignorant <50>(5723), and <2532> on them that are out of the way <4105>(5746); for <1893> that he <4029> <0> himself <846> also <2532> is compassed <4029>(5736) with infirmity <769>.
3. And <2532> by reason <1223> hereof <5026> he ought <3784>(5719), as <2531> for <4012> the people <2992>, so <3779> also <2532> for <4012> himself <1438>, to offer <4374>(5721) for <5228> sins <266>.
4. And <2532> no <3756> man <5100> taketh <2983>(5719) this honour <5092> unto himself <1438>, but <235> he that is called <2564>(5746) of <5259> God <2316>, as <2509> <2532> was Aaron <2>.
5. So <3779> also <2532> Christ <5547> glorified <1392>(5656) not <3756> himself <1438> to be made <1096>(5677) an high priest <749>; but <235> he that said <2980>(5660) unto <4314> him <846>, Thou <4771> art <1488>(5748) my <3450> Son <5207>, to day <4594> have <1080> <0> I <1473> begotten <1080>(5758) thee <4571>.
6. As <2531> he saith <3004>(5719) also <2532> in <1722> another <2087> place, Thou <4771> art a priest <2409> for <1519> ever <165> after <2596> the order <5010> of Melchisedec <3198>.
7. Who <3739> in <1722> the days <2250> of his <848> flesh <4561>, when he had offered up <4374>(5660) prayers <1162> and <5037> <2532> supplications <2428> with <3326> strong <2478> crying <2906> and <2532> tears <1144> unto <4314> him that was able <1410>(5740) to save <4982>(5721) him <846> from <1537> death <2288>, and <2532> was heard <1522>(5685) in that <575> he feared <2124>;
8. Though <2539> he were <5607>(5752) a Son <5207>, yet learned he <3129>(5627) obedience <5218> by <575> the things which <3739> he suffered <3958>(5627);
9. And <2532> being made perfect <5048>(5685), he became <1096>(5633) the author <159> of eternal <166> salvation <4991> unto all <3956> them that obey <5219>(5723) him <846>;
10. Called <4316>(5685) of <5259> God <2316> an high priest <749> after <2596> the order <5010> of Melchisedec <3198>.
11. Of <4012> whom <3739> we <2254> have <3056> <0> many things <4183> to say <3056>, and <2532> hard <1421> to be uttered <3004>(5721), seeing <1893> ye are <1096>(5754) dull <3576> of hearing <189>.
12. For <1063> when for <1223> the time <5550> ye ought <3784>(5723) to be <1511>(5750) teachers <1320>, ye have <2192>(5719) need <5532> that one teach <1321>(5721) you <5209> again <3825> which <5101> be the first <746> principles <4747> of the oracles <3051> of God <2316>; and <2532> are become such as <1096>(5754) have <2192>(5723) need <5532> of milk <1051>, and <2532> not <3756> of strong <4731> meat <5160>.
13. For <1063> every one <3956> that useth <3348>(5723) milk <1051> is unskilful <552> in the word <3056> of righteousness <1343>: for <1063> he is <2076>(5748) a babe <3516>.
14. But <1161> strong <4731> meat <5160> belongeth to them that are <2076>(5748) of full age <5046>, even those who by reason <1223> of use <1838> have <2192>(5723) their senses <145> exercised <1128>(5772) to <4314> discern <1253> both <5037> good <2570> and <2532> evil <2556>.
